Feedback on CPU Roster Management in Franchise Mode (Catchers)
-
Hi MLB The Show Development Team,
I am writing to share some feedback regarding CPU roster logic in Franchise Mode, which currently feels a bit unrealistic.
During the regular season, CPU-controlled teams frequently and aggressively sign Free Agent catchers. While they occasionally sign players at other positions during the offseason, their mid-season signings are heavily biased toward catchers.
In one extreme case, I watched a CPU team sign, release, re-sign, and release the exact same catcher about seven times in a single season.
This behavior is highly unrealistic. I would love to see an adjustment to the CPU logic so that teams manage their rosters more realistically and consider signing Free Agents at other positions during the season when needed.
Thank you for your time and for continuously improving the game! -
I've seen this happen, as well.
The logic is because all teams MUST have two catchers at every level. A lot of 'decent' catchers are older, with many years playing experience.
So, here's how this might go: A team's catcher gets an injury. The AAA catcher is junk. So they pick up a decent backup catcher from free agency. 2 or 3 weeks later, the injured catcher comes back. The player they just signed has too much experience to be sent down, so they get DFA'ed and released. And then a few weeks later, their other catcher gets injured and the process repeats itself.
This is far more common with catchers. Any other position, they will call up a different position. Example: A 2B gets injured but a SS at AAA plays 2B as a secondary. So, they call them up instead.
Catchers tend to only catch. Maybe 1B as a secondary, but rarely. This is what's going on.
