Some in game dynamic/boss challenges based on stats?

I'm sure this happened earlier in the season, but I only really noticed what seemed to be going on during the playoffs.
If you pay attention to the information when you get a boss challenge, some of them are for facing the league leader in wins/strikeouts/HRs/RBIs, etc.
Since my two way player (SP/SS) was absolutely lights out during the season (playing on beginner mode helps with that), I was leading the AL in all of those statistical catagories.
Which meant I only seemed to get a challenge like that in interleague games (against NL teams - and in the World Series).
This is important because they seem to be the only challenges with potential permanent stat boost rewards (+1 pitching clutch/ +1 power - which always seemed to be vs R, never vs L).
Has anyone else noticed this? It would be a little disheartening to realize my progression is actually limited (not getting the boss challenge with attribute point rewards) by playing well.

As a #1 prospect I still got them against other prospects but later on yes I would only get them from NL on my SP/2B Yankees player.
