An Observation and Experiment
-
Ive noticed a trend in CPU play that lends credence to theory that something in the game is messing with the RNG and possibly causing certain CPU at bats to be predetermined (or rubbing up against it)
When playing the CPU - ive come up against random batters (its always been different players) that foul off pitch after pitch. No matter what you throw, if its a good pitch it gets fouled off. They also get a laser like eye at the plate, swinging at nothing even a centimeter off the plate. Finally when you either lose patience or miss even a little bit over the plate they get a hit, often for extra bases.
Its not just good players. I havent been able to pin point why it happens, or when it happens, but it seems like once a CPU batter has that "switch" flicked on for them, they will almost always make excellent contact and get a hit. Ive only just began to keep exact stats, but the CPU is hitting .778 in these situations.
Two times they made an out -- One time i completely fudged the pitching meter leading to a wildly odd slider that ended up in the strike zone, and the CPU didnt swing. The other was a laser hit down the line but snared by my 1st baseman.
Has anyone noticed this. If not, keep your eye out for it. Itll be obvious, because the CPU will get to like 5, 6, 7 fouled off pitches in a row. Try and take note how that, at bat, ends.
Or ignore this. Its just a note for anyone interested. Thanks!

100% have noticed this. Gotta watch out for those guys and be extra careful. Can usually spot it happening halfway through the 8-10 pitch at bat

Its definitely a thing. I'm convinced that some moments/CPU games are predetermined. Mainly in conquest. Not to sound cocky or whatever, but I should never lose to the CPU on veteran, yet I do multiple times in a conquest run

Yes, definitely have. I’ll usually just plunk the CPU batter after 3-4 foul balls and sometimes the CPU will just go on a tear after that since it didn’t get the at bat result it was looking for.

I was casually playing the other night and talking with my friend in party chat. When I looked closer, I'd thrown 24 pitches to one guy, all foul balls. I finally walked him so I could move on with my life. It's pretty ridiculous

It's been like this for years. If they start fouling everything off just hit them and save your pitch count.

This does occur. I don’t know if I would say it’s pre determined. I always thought there was something about the cpu “picking up on” my pitch sequences.
But, I find that I have to throw one of my pitches that I don’t normally throw or throw a pitch in a different spot than I normally do. This usually works. So, if I never throw a guys curveball, I will throw that. If I haven’t tried a back door slider in that at bat I’ll do that.

I have a "10-foul" rule. After 10 fouls, I peg him square in the back. I haven't had too many repeat offenders.

That CPU batter just got the Starman power up.
