Star players who had their careers cut short
-
I would love to see a Yordano Venture and Jose Fernandez card in the game as they were both starts before their accidents
-
@TreSomm_XBL Jose Fernandez killed himself and others while operating a boat drunk and on cocaine. No thank you.
-
@RealMessiah_XBL The Messiah has spoken
-
While not remotely a star player. Ruben Tejada is just 35 years old.
Feels like so long ago when Utley effectively ended his career -
@RealMessiah_XBL He was a kid. Kids make mistakes. Have a heart. You can recognize someone made a mistake while still also recognizing its a great tragedy for his family and the game of baseball.
-
@TreSomm_XBL As a cardinal fan for me it was Oscar Tavares. He never got a chance to be a start because he was only 22 years old when he died in a car accident. Most people won't even know his name but this guy was billed as the next Pujols
-
@trfatboy22_MLBTS 24 year olds aren't kids by any definition of the word. Stop giving people a pass for their adult decisions that killed other people.
-
@RealMessiah_XBL Your brain doesn't fully develop until 25. So yes they are kids. And it's not giving someone a pass to say that its a tragedy for them to die. Good people make mistakes. Again, have a heart.

I would have sympathy if not for the fact that the teams have dozens of classes and workshops for these players in the minor leagues(all sports do it) teaching them about the hazards and pitfalls they can face because of their status and soon to be money. Drugs have brought down many an athlete and they drum it into these young players how dangerous it is, so no I don't have sympathy for it, compassion yes, but not sympathy.

Mike Shannon for the Cardinals.
Went into a fantastic career as a broadcaster with Jack Buck, was a hell of a player but had health issues force him to retire. Won a World Series as a player. There’s an awesome episode of he and Bob Uecker reminiscing on old times out there if you google Live at Shannon’s Uecker
