Can't wait. Would be great if the promo looked to be a Jim Palmer release and then cut to Pete doing a "Pete Rose" slide into 3rd. -I will come unglued.

Also, what a POS this Manfred [censored] is. If you're going to clear the ban, do it while the man is still alive. He was 83 when he died last year and had already underwent 3 heart procedures in the previous 5 years, and Manfred had been commisioner for 9 years already. Manfred didn't do [censored] to any of the Astros who all cheated their way to a ring, except suspend Cora for one year. An incredible double standard if you ask me. Pete only bet on his team to win, those guys cheated to win.

There is absolutely no parity in the MLB. There is in the NFL and NHL, but Manfred and those that came before him are too weak to address the issue in MLB. So maybe a team with a low payroll might sneak through the first round, but by the CS, it's all the biggest payrolls. Granting you Arizona's incredible run to the WS, but otherwise, it's a rich kid's party.

I'm not reading that wall of text the same way you didn't read the other 3 threads about this.

Agree 100% that Manfred is a POS for not doing this while he was alive. It’s incredibly sad.

But get out of here with the “cheated all the way to a ring” BS. You sound lazy. Do a little bit of research into the topic. Say what you want about the morality of cheating in baseball — I’ll most likely agree, it was wrong — but chalking up that entire championship to an advantage they had in some regular season home games is just ignorant. And FYI, they were better on the road that year.

Pete Rose is the PoS. He absolutely did not deserve this while he was alive, he was given enough chances to not be human excrement and he always failed

If he wasnt a shitstain to that reporter he would have died a hall of famer

@AstrosJake_PSN They played 3 of those World Series games at home, and then Roberts started Darvish in the 7th game. I have softened enough to accept Bregman’s card in my 3B rotation this year, so maybe we’re all growing.

Serious question, was it the pitch clock or the Astros that are responsible for there being no more signs given by the catchers any longer?

You say they are POS for doing it after he died, they didn't have to lift it at all.
The Black Sox players have been banned for over 100 years, it was to be forever for them and Rose, ......

@JasonAEMales_PSN That’s a fair point, but even if they were attempting to use it during the WS, it’s probably way more likely than not it wasn’t effective.

For one, hearing an audible sound coming from the dugout in a regular season game is one thing, but I’m not sure how it would be possible to use that system in a closed roof stadium during the World Series. A few years back, someone went back and gathered audio data from that entire season and logged every pitch you can hear it, the success rate, who was hitting, etc. If I remember correctly, I don’t think anything was detected in the postseason. That’s not to say they weren’t trying, but I question the effectiveness. (That site was also what tipped everyone off that Altuve didn’t participate)

On top of that, it was a storyline during that postseason and especially the World Series how often teams were switching up their signs and/or using extremely complicated signs, even with no runners on. Everyone was suspicious of everyone at the time. I think it was even brought up to Brian McCann in the postgame show after Game 7.

Anyway, I’ll get off my soapbox, obviously I’m an Astros fan and I’ve got good memories of that season. Didn’t mean to come across brash if I did.

And about the pitchcom, I think that was coming for awhile but the scandal was probably what pushed it over the edge.

@AstrosJake_PSN You're right, I honestly don't know anywhere near the whole story on the Astros that year, but you can't trust the league to investigate something when the truth could cause it to lose money, and in the absence of a John Cullen like person doing a forensic analysis of it, we'll never know about the playoffs. My point of bringing it up is the double standard. I'm for Rose being in, and I'm for Bregman and Altuve being in if they get selected too. People make mistakes, and maybe Altuve is the Joe Jackson figure there. As sure as I'm sitting here, though, nobodey is going to get 4,256 hits again, no matter how many games they add to the playoffs.

Keeping the steroid era guys out, that obviously would have been there anyway, when it was the league and Selig that really failed us is wrong also, but the Baseball Writers Association of America aren't having it.

@JasonAEMales_PSN Altuve is not Bregman, Correa, Gurriel, Springer, Marisnick, and the worst Beltran and Marwin Gonzalez. Altuve was proven to not partake. Beltran and Cora are the ones who implemented that whole thing. Those young guys had no say TBH. Even Hinch, the coach hated it. Hee saw they were literally worse while doing it. Got rid of it when Cora and Beltran left and they had their best teams in franchise history after that. Despite blowing the 2019 WS lol

@JasonAEMales_PSN A lot of people hate Mike Fiers for coming out publicly with what happened, but to his credit he tried to go to MLB first. He came out publicly only after MLB refused to look into it. Like you said, it’s better to bury your head in the sand, or minimize the situation and move on as quickly as possible. And you could say MLB has done that about A LOT of things the last several decades.

But yeah, I agree with everything you said. And it’s going to be a really sad induction to watch when it happens. But I hope Reds fans pack the place.

I'll just never understand the Pete Rose obsession at all.

He was a very good player, who had longevity on his side. I liken him to Craig Biggio, a little better average, less power, but similar caliber of player.

He was kept out of the Hall of Fame ultimately not for his gambling, but for being a complete scumbag. Hes not the only player this has happened to. Curt Schilling for one, was kept out of the hall because he is an [censored]. If Schilling had just kept his mouth shut he was on track to get in. Same deal with Rose, if he showed any class at all he would have died a hall of famer

Its kind of funny how people haven't figured out the real reason this has happened.
What numbers did Pedro Martinez and Tom Glavine wear?

He isn't coming. Deal with it. Rose was a POS, and the reason they waited til he was dead was simple, they didnt want to be associated with him. We can't deny how great of a ball player he was. We can deny how good of a human being he was.

I thought I read that part of the reason they waited until he died, maybe the main one, was to send a clear message to future players that a lifetime ban is indeed a lifetime ban. You will not enjoy an association with MLB, including the HOF, while you are alive. If so, I can respect that even if the softie in me bristles at it.
