Early thoughts - DD is going to frustrate the more casual and semi casual players.

The way I see the spring breakout program:
- Showdown is for all intents and purposes required
- 25 points for moments. These are at least chill, fun moments
- 25 points for using the programs cards, plus 10 points for the repeatable pxp along the way.
- 20 points for the showdown (they should never require this, and with repeatable pxp it technically isnt by 1k is a lot of pxp)
- 5 points for pxp of your selected player
- 5 points for 25Ks with rockies (You will be getting 10 innings with Ubaldo Jiminez anyway...)
- pick your poison for other 10 points
I really hope with the showdown they simply forgot we arent using 99s anymore. As I said if I can do it (Im a guy who hits .250 with ~40% strikeout rate in ranked) anyone can, but its easily tougher than any non extreme showdown I did from last year.

This is why I think Diamond Quest is an L. The RNG to get the rewards makes me not even want to spend the time trying. I'm ok having to achieve things to get rewards. But achieving them and still not getting them while also NOT getting PXP or Missions Advancement for most of the effort makes me wanna avoid the mode entirely.
I thought this is how i would feel, but if you blitz the two stadiums youll at least get 2 packs, plus any packs for mini boss stages along the way. Completing the full board to me is NOT worth it.
Note that the mini boss showdown stages count towards mission goals so you can use them for that (within reason, you dont want to be bringing bronzes)
The good thing is that these will ultimately be dirt cheap since they are easy to obtain for people that can hit high difficulties who will flood the market.

The TA is easy to start out, after the moment and the pxp with the silver, 3 SB (vs the As is good for this,I just got the 3 with 81 spd Andres Gimenez of Tor)then either 12IP or 3 W (the USA map is great for this)and then you have the gold player, after his mission you only need the one pitching and 2 hitting missions to get the diamond.
Have 1 team to dia,4 to gold and by time I'm done catus map(my last one) I'll have 10 to gold.(this is just with LS players mostly.Yeah, getting that captain card is fairly easy (I earned Edmonds last night) but you still need 230K more for the All Star Voucher and 310K more for the Finest Voucher.
That is what I consider to be the end goal of the program and why many, like myself, won't bother attempting multiple programs to that point.
I'm not worried about those, the all star voucher won't be used till July,as hefty as those stats are even someone who prefers their home team could have all 30 done by then, same for finest.

300 hits x 30 teams is a LOT. And what about the people who start in June?
I do think (hope?) they have an answer for this, but for now its just uncertainty -
I'm a casual, and to tell you the truth, I've kinda hit the wall already. I'm still gonna grind, but man does it seem a bit overwhelming.
-
I did all three USA conquest maps and pretty much finished breakout and pipeline after two of them playing in veteran difficulty
I didn't buy any extra cards to do it. I did finish the showdown and all moments
The pxp is repeatable if you're constantly using those players and the Pitchers add up quickly. You won't have to do all those stat missions to complete because of the repeatable pxp
-
Guys, nobody said you have to do TA in 3 days. Take your time, get more cards (new program incoming) and play the game.
Also: I get some frustration, but we are all casuals here and you need to balance it a little bit… I also trust the process, if SDS realizes people struggling they can react … but not before official launch -
The TA grind is meant to be just that: a grind. Personally, I'm VERY glad to have one back. The Pipeline and Spring Breakout programs can be fully completed with a repeatable PXP mission. The only complaint about the Spring Breakout is that 4 cards, and thus the collection, are locked behind showdown, and the cards are no-sell. That is a huge L. At least the showdown isn't required to complete the program, so I applaud them for that. And I'm in the minority here, but, to me, Diamond Quest is poorly designed and a colossal waste of time. I'm happy for those that are enjoying it, but I did it once, and I'm never touching it again. That is just not a play pattern that has any appeal to me.

While I’m with the OP (I hate the grind), I think the original look of the TA is daunting, however if you take a step back from the ledge, it makes more sense.
The TA seems to be all three/four TA seasons in one given out already. In the past few years, you’d have season 1 where the goal was to get the captain. Season 2 would be get another captain, season 3 is all-star, season 4 is finest. Or something like that.
It still feels that way now. Except, of if I wanted to spend 168 straight hours working on it, I could unlock all those things now. I just won’t get the card until the release date (also a smart idea).
It looks daunting because they’ve basically released an entire years’ worth of TA on opening day. I think you’ll realize that if you actually start putting specific work into them, they’ll get knocked out in about the same time as they were last year. Plus, as others have said, multiple TA programs within the same team will stack stats.
-
I'm going to with hood judgememt for now. The grind does appear to be back which I think is a positive however I do agree with OP that could be an over correct from the past two years. SDS opened paandoras box the last two years and made everything very quick to get things done that going back to the old style may turn people off

I swear you guys drive me nuts sometimes…I think people like saying “Let’s Grind!” But what they mean is “I want EVERYTHING completed & done day 1!”
And while it looks daunting, It’s really not. Once you start hitting milestone stats, It’s going to fly.

@Blind_Bleeder_PSN Where do the cards for the optional missions come from?
I don’t know. I didn’t get that far into analyzing the program. Maybe packs?
Showdown
yep, the last 4 cards needed for the Spring Breakout are in the SB Showdown. i have completed it once, really dreading playing it 3 more times just for the other 3 gold cards
-
@Teak2112_MLBTS The showdown for spring breakout is not required to finish the program because there is a repeatable mission that you can do. I think eventually the pack that you get by completing the s hi showdown you will get eventually

Well, in my defense I have never been one who wanted to see huge grinds come back. I don't mind some some grind but with the time I invest in the game each year (roughly 300 hours) I don't necessarily want 250+ hours to be spent grinding with cards and players I don't care about in order to earn a few cards that I do want.
While I mentioned mentioned Team Affinity, my post was not entirely about team affinity.
It is also not just about me as I have stuck with the game through the good and bad years (and will usually be called an SDS shill at some point every year). The point of the thread kind of boils down to 2 points for me.
-
I grow tired of grinding for cards that I want to use only to be asked to take them out if I want to efficiently grind for my next target. I am happy that I got my Jim Edmonds card, Cradinals Carlos Beltran, Bob Gibson, Quinn Mathews, etc. But now it is better if I take those guys out so that I can earn stats with other teams or PXP with other cards to earn JJ Weatherholt.
-
I see the starting programs and grinds as something new players will struggle with immensely. The moments, Showdown and Diamond Quest are difficult for beginners. New players who get the game on Tues will receive 5 packs (20 player cards) they will not have the player pool needed to grind Team Stat missions for the Spring Breakout program.
-

Pipeline program was completed with few problems. I didn't even know about a Pipeline Diamond Quest so you definitely don't need that. For the moments I think I skipped one or two of them and still finished the program. I wanted the 87 Roman Anthony (Sox prospect) and now that I have him, I don't have to care about Pipeline anymore.

As for the mission totals-got to take it context, I've played all 3 USA maps and 4 strongholds of cactus and have 196 hits (total) and my hitting is still off an on right now, those missions will complete faster than it seems they will. -
TA seems daunting because it’s planned out for the whole year and you look at your percentage and it’s like 3% when you get to the “captain”. Don’t worry about TA at all unless you want some favorite players in there. It will all come naturally. Focus on the programs which are laid out nicely (except doing the spring out breakout showdown 4 times). SDS can always find ways to help us out throughout the year. They want us to experience the content that they’ve worked on.
It’s only day 3 today and there’s obviously the rest of the year left so for anyone feeling discouraged just enjoy the game and take it slow. You’ll get everything you want in the game.

I failed the Spring Breakout Showdown 2 more times this morning. Maybe I have just gotten bad at the game in my old age
After I lost the second attempt I exited the game and fired up The Crew Motorfest to check out the island of Maui which they added for free. I'll go back to The Show after lunch and start another conquest map. My biggest decisions will be who to put on the squad in order to slowly progress missions while trying to keep in a few Cardinals that I would like to keep using (Edmonds & Beltran)

I totally understand what you’re saying bud. Just remember - You don’t have to have every card. There’s nothing wrong with letting a couple hard to earn cards go. What I love about DD is you can compete & win without needing the best cards. Play at your speed & what you enjoy playing and everything will fall into place. Try it & see! No need to get stressed, This is for fun & enjoyment!
