Realistic Expectations for 25
-
I'm genuinely curious about the expectations you all have for '25. From the initial trailer for '24, it felt like a transition year for SDS, so I wonder what the team has up its sleeve, especially after seeing the Japanese baseball game that was just released by Konami.

Mostly the same with a few new features and changes.
If you are expecting big changes then you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

I just hope they get away from sets and seasons. I used to play this game from launch to launch. I don't understand waiting this long for the next season to start. They should have had it ready to go the week after the WS.

I really agree with this. I remember with MLB 21 the show I had my original packs and starters throughout the entire course of the year. Literally I think I had my picture card of Pedro martinas. I think with almost maybe 3,000 and he's pitched. So I'm the kind of guy where I don't like to really buy a lot of cards. I just play them a lot. I think they should bring this back cuz the sets is seasons kind of brings it out of the fun. I like having cars where you start from day one and you can just grind those out but also have the long stats too. Or you have a card of a guy who has a hundred home runs or you know a record setting year you play with him all season every game

Going to depend on if there is a Tech Test. No Tech Test, chances are Sets and Seasons will be back.

Consider that MLB The Show goes all the way back over 20 years. For well over half the title's history, the game was all about playing the CPU in baseball games, either individual exhibition style games or replicating a season as a specific team.
Then, along came innovations like RTTS where you would create a player and let it serve as an avatar for you as the player. Other modes started to morph allowing you to replicate the role of the GM (Franchise). These modes served the title well.
Later on, the online options started to expand into competition modes, and unfortunately they combined with a money-making intent to get people to compete for or pay for stubs. This caused 90% of the game's code changes to focus on online play.
The game needs to get back to its roots -- exhibition, RTTS, and Franchise. And while online competition is fine, it cannot become the prime focus. Doing so causes frustration. These have set in with the advent of seasonal card rosters and the requirement to rebuild all or most of your team throughout the year.
Get the pay to play aspect out of the title once and for all. You pay once and upfront and then you play for as long as you desire to. RTTS should be based on your avatar earning promotion and recognition strictly by quality of your on-the-field play, not some paid for (stubs or cash) method via equipment-based attributes. The idea that minor league players today are unable to get outfitted with the latest equipment is utterly ridiculous. The teams at all levels today provide this stuff.
Beyond this, one of the ways to keep the game original is via custom created stadiums, and despite this, Stadium Creator has been almost totally stagnant since it's inception with MLB 21. Those who have used it extensively have repeatedly advocated good changes to the basic code operation to make that mode far better at building realistic looking stadiums from all periods of baseball. It is way past time for SDS to listen to those details and implement them.

Exactly. I would love "next-gen" only, but I'm guessing there are still too many old-gen and "Switch" players out there, so they'll "go where the money is".
At this point, I guess I'd have to be happy if they made some "cosmetic" fixes:
- Mini-Season stats. I don't understand how they can't get this right.
- Stats for CPU-controlled LS teams. Since I play a ton of conquest, I'd love to see the CPU stats against me. I have a feeling that I strike out Mike Trout almost every at-bat, but I have no way of knowing that.
- Animations - some animations still look "wonky" to me.
- Better face scans - probably won't happen until "next-gen" only.
- New/improved game modes—Many forum members have made good suggestions. I hope SDS considers some of these.
- I used to play RTTS exclusively before I started DD in 2020. I recently started a new player while we wait for Season 4 and... ooofff. I wish SDS would give RTTS some love this off-season.

@PriorFir4383355_XBL Preach. I enjoy going back to 06 to have fun in rebuilding a team based on overall and stats in that franchise mode.

I only play Diamond Dynasty and have never felt the need to "pay to play". There are a lot of problems with The Show but this isn't one of them.
Grinding and flipping will get you any card you could want. Compare that to 2K and EAs models (where grinding will only get you so far), and this is one area SDS is much more reasonable.
