I just can’t recognize certain pitches and I swing way to early. I just can’t tell if it’s gonna be a slider or fastball. Or I can’t I if it’s gonna be a change up or a fastball. Just wondering if anyone had tips to help me improve this.

Hitting view plays a huge role. Mess around and find a couple that work well for you. I don't think there's a better view than SZ for helping to recognize what type of pitch is coming in.

    1. Custom Practice is your best friend. Most times when I log-in I spend 5-10 minutes in it. I started on all-star, and I have gradually moved to legend difficulty (you can also make dynamic difficulty as well). I don't get hits consistently on legend, but then when I jump online, the ball is slower and easier to catch on.

    2. You have to also think about what will be thrown next. Once an at-bat, I'll press R2 to remind myself of the pitches that the pitcher has. If it's a 0-1 count and you were right on a fastball, chances are it's going to be off-speed (vice versa). As you are playing in RS, you will notice what people throw the most, and you got to sit that.

    3. Like the guy above, you have to find the camera angle that works best for you. Play around with them.

Unless you buy a computer monitor (which I am even embarrassed to suggest) most people guess by leaving their PCI in a section of the strike zone. Which IMO takes away the skill factor of reacting to pitches. Along with the many other problems in this game.

There’s also a bunch of good hitting tip videos on YouTube. MovieGamingTV has a really good one he just put up

I’ve always used strike zone since like 17 and I always thought my recognition was decent but this year it’s just terrible.

It might be in your head then, man. I don't think they changed SZ at all

Yeah but if they guess wrong they have to use their skill to compensate. I hate the power swinging low ball “pci” campers. I got down 2-0 bc of this and never threw another low ball unless it was in the dirt..... dude barely got another hit with a steady dose of high pitches and inside pitches. So that method is crappy

How much better tho is a gaming monitor compared to a Samsung tv with game mode enabled? I have a nice 120 refresh computer monitor I could use, but it’s so much smaller than my tv. Does game mode still not work good enough?

Definitely practice will be your best friend. Even if you just sit the controller down and just watch the pitcher pitch until you can tell, what each pitch is before the catcher catches it.

This pretty much nails it. I have the same issues. I can hit the fastball. I can hit the sinker. I have no issues facing kluber. But you throw ottani at me with the slider and curve and I Can’t recognize that many pitches. But I do just sit on pitches when that happens. I always have an educated guess by making mental notes of pitches thrown In situations and can usually still score a few runs
