The subway series captain card already exists.
The Yankee team captain already exists, and with better boosts.There are currently I think 8 available free captains (granted two are Jeter so really 8), and they will without question release more. So no, you do not need to buy packs
Not everything is "pushing people to buy packs". Stop with the overreaction to every little thing.
Its a free card that I would wager at least 50% of the DD playerbase wont even bother to do unless they add a core collection.There may be a lot wrong with this game's model this year, but the Jeter storyline isnt it.

@sbchamps17 the issue I have with it is that a majority of the people who complete the storylines do it for the cards in that mode (CC, Jorge, Mo)who do not have cards anywhere else and are low diamonds. That and with the first Jeter card being a boost for them only to have it taken away after being advertised. If it was one of the 95 captains that were recently dropped it’s a different story, but to advertise and change it with a majority of the captains being low diamond and expiring in a month takes away from the people who did want the card

There are two Jeter captain cards. One is for the subway series. One is for captains
The first card was not changed and boosts the "subway series" cards as it always has
The second card is new and I don't recall it being 'advertised' before, but if it was then maybe it was changed based on feedback of having two captain cards of the same player doing the same thing being silly?
I really don't understand the complaint here at all

Teak -- You do not understand how ONE buffs cards we have earned and the other buffs cards we have to buy to get FULL value from the card at least at this time. How do you NOT get this and how some might be annoyed by it and I will admit not sure I would use EITHER of them much but it's the point of it all.

Then don't use any of them, just because you don't like it doesn't mean that the rest of us don't. I took an hour to complete all his new missions just to get the new card because I like his cards and I like the fact that he boosts other captains which is actually quite nice and different for a change

People wanted a second Jeter captain card that does the same thing as the previously released Jeter captain card?
I'm sorry, this makes zero sense to me.The captain captain is fine.
Excluding the duplicate Jeter, there are 8 captains that are free. 7 of those 8 (including Jeter) are core
The 8th is cornerstone which will get a season 2 replacement
I would say 90%+ chance we get a 6th team captain before season 1 end to go with the one they just gaveThis will allow people to go into season 2 with a full 9/9 on Captain Captain Jeter if they want, and that might be a pretty decent team in the first couple of weeks

The point is not the buff is that it does not match what we thought it was from the menu and such -- also seeing that makes it looked like they changed it and again to really use it you prolly need to spend stubs on the packs and such.
I said my peace if SDS fans want to make excuses or look past it then fine whatever --

Spot on. Some of us were looking forward to a jeter lead theme team of storyline cards and other yankees based on the home screen just to find out it was changed last second followed by a flash sale for captain packs. A captain of captains couldve easily been in that pack, youd expect a storylines card from playing storylines

I’m confused, do people not realize if they start from the beginning they will get two Jeter captains, one for “Subway Series”cards the next for captains. They are free too. So unless they removed the first one, I am confused.

I think for the first 30 minutes of the update today they had an incorrect picture for the new Captain that showed him as 'Subway Series and Yankees captain'. It was gone by the time I woke up and logged in an hour after the update
That was probably the original design of the card at some point (possibly even before the original one was released). Given Jeter, Mattingly, and Ford already existed the new card is redundant so they changed it into something that wasnt covered elsewhere. And is also a core card buffing other core cards.
Of course, people are obsessed with turning everything into a rant on SDS being greedy so are taking what is in general a player friendly move and turning it into another reason to complain because of course every single move SDS does must driven by stubs. (To be fair, a lot certainly are)

Get off the forums and talk to a human in person. Nothing the OP said is inaccurate. Do you know how free market capitalism works in the gaming industry? They want your money. Last post on this subject cause it just came to me.
As much as it sucks the other thing is not a X post or a forum post explaining that there was a error in the image / communication or some explanation for this move by a dev. I even put in a feedback ticket and hoping I get a response in a few days since it's the weekend. Also if this was last year and this happened I would be much more forgiving but this year they seem motivated more by $$$ so not forgiving at all atm.
small update : They changed the pic on the screen but I took a screen shot ( the old one ) of it so SDS -- still waiting for a explanation of why SDS --- COMMUNICATION -- learn how to do it plz

Your right with one thing -- makes no sense for 2 Capt cards for same thing BUT the card art was NOT for the same thing -- it was for TWO things -- Subway series AND Yankee's -- but it's a mute point now. I just wish fans would not be so willing to forgive what is an obvious ploy to push players to buy Capt packs.

I just think its a stretch to say that was the case when the original design was obviously flawed. they very clearly should have changed it from that design (I know some people want to replace Donnie Baseball so there is an extremely small minority of people that would have preferred the pictured design)
So what to change it to? They changed it to last year's Captain of Captains, which makes sense for a guy heavily associated with being a captain.
If having Jeter a captain captain was more random, I might be more inclined to agree with you.
And even if it was a ploy to buy more packs, its still a more useful card to people who will never spend stubs for a captain pack. This was overall a player friendly change, and if they are going to things that benefit them at least let it benefit us too.

Even as a Mets fan we can agree on Mattingly. He was incredible before the injuries took their toll
