It’s odd that people think “play with a card you like” is different from “mash homeruns”. My favorite cards are the ones that allow me to win. Mashing homeruns allows me to win.
As for the second comment regarding SDS using Buxton to drive up stub sales.

All part of the SDS plan this year. Give the community a card that will help drive up sales of certain cards in packs and programs so people will spend more money on stubs to create meta teams.
Are we supposed to demonize a company for doing what a company is supposed to do? This isnt a small independent studio that makes a game solely for the love and adoration of the community. They're supposed to make money so they can continue to make these games every year.
Maybe im in the minority here but i've accepted the fact that no matter how much i play, i will never have the "meta". I'll never finish season collections because i refuse to spend any more than the initial $100 i paid for the deluxe edition. And im ok with that. Not everyone is gonna get every card in the game just for playing. But im also not gonna fault them for trying to maximize their profits. Thats how businesses are supposed to work.

This doesn't even make any sense. I have been using Buxton since day 1 and haven't spent a penny. You can put together a great Buxton boost team off all the free cards available.
-
It’s only meta with All-Star level players. The Buxton meta will disappear once people hit HOF & Legend where attributes actually matter.

Explain to me how he’s good. I thought he boosts players with vision lower than 60. Nobody on my current team has vision lower than 60. I have zero use for the Maddux cornerstone I took. How would this guy help me? There is a special lineup or something I don’t know about.

You can eye roll all you want, but you'll just look like a clown bud. Why is live series trout 59 vision but the free trout is 60? Cruz is sub 60 vision in a 30k pack, but he's selling for what 80k?
Sds may not have put Buxton in the game in order to drive up the price on cards, but they see the meta and are definitely using Buxton meta to make cards you have to buy more valuable.
-
@go4stros25 SDS doesn’t set the card’s stub price… that’s the community. The fact Cruz is going for so much is because of the meta, I’ll give you that. But, that’s not SDS’s doing. I hundred percent agree that some of the cards were set at 60 vision because of the meta. But as others have said: you can have a great Buxton team without purchasing anything. I never spend money on this game, and never will, and I love my Buxton team. The supercharged players work really well with him as well!
If you pair them with the correct pitching captain (also a free card), you can really go wild!
-
@fubar2k7 If you have 16 players on your team that meet the requirements it increases power, contact, speed more than any other captain…Again, This is fine for beating on people in lower levels of RS but this lineup will be much less successful on HOF and completely useless on Legend with such incredibly low vision.

Initially, I thought the same thing as I was building my 1st Buxton boost team.
I thought to myself, the Arenado boost will likely be better once I reach HOF difficulty due to vision being low.
However, most guys I use have between 55-59 base vision. With all being at least Parallel 2-4, most are sitting at low 60's.All higher vision does is allow you to make contact more consistently when fooled with pci placement. Since I'm fairly decent at reacting, I don't strike out much. So the lower vision doesn't really hurt me too bad.
Of course, if I used guys with 80+ vision, my strikeouts would decrease from average of 5-6 to maybe 2-3. But, my hr's will also decrease, along with extra base hits, since most of my players have 80+ speed with the Buxton boost. -
@America_69420 theres enougg cards to rotate through with under 60 vision theres deffinetly a few meta guys but theres plenty of variety to be had except for buxton himself of course i wish we could still get the boost with him on thr bench he needs a day off once in a while lmao

For anybody rocking the buxton theme, supercharged McMahon is an absolute goon for me. I haven't come across anyone else in the event using him.

This is so bad and so wrong. But hey, you got your narrative … because you are not able to build a team of free cards off of it.
Out of my head, here is a team you can rock with in ranked into Hall of Fame
- Gary at C (TA)
- Dunn at 1B (Captain choice pack)
- Termarr Johnson at 2B (program)
- Mondesi at SS (Captain choice pack)
- Oswaldo at 3rd (supercharged)
- OF: Buxton
- Crews (program)
- Stanton (TA)
-
I still prefer the Arenado. About 7 cards have nearly +110 on 5/6 attributes. Corey Seager is ridiculous.

I think as the season goes on, Arenado will become the new meta.
-
@JDHalfrack why? Who wants to use a team full of guys who can't make it to second on a ball off the wall?
The problem with the current cornetstone captains is that Buxton is the only viable option. If you choose any of the others you will have a team full of golds, but with Buxton you have a full boosted diamond team.
-
@IrishFist412 real meta is the Arrenado boost

Speed don't matter in a HR Trot...
