In the end, we are still losing cards we bought/grinded for. And if we start every season at 91 progressing to 99’s by the end and then reset for the next season how long do we get to use the 99’s? This opens the exact same problem TA had last year, nobody wants to use 99s and then grind for 91’s. Should’ve scrapped sets/seasons entirely and had normal power creep.

From my understanding, each season will start with a higher floor and a higher ceiling. So the power creep is there, excepting the 99's that can be avoided (LS rewards, collections, etc.).

Agree 100% with OP, the traditional year long creep incentivized year long play. Grinding for 99 in Season 1 just to fall back to a grind for 90 something in Season 2 does not motivate to grind for the 9 month cycle of the game. What they announced may seem like a slight improvement but when the baseline was the worst DD in the games history, slight improvement doesn't really do much.

The fact that we have no carryovers is a big big thing. In 23 you did not have any need to grind for Cards once Set2 was released to build up your team (since it was great in the first place). You had to do it for the collections, which were new though.

@YOSHI24 So instead we power-creep for 9 or 10 weeks to finally earn that shiny 99 only to play with it for a few weeks before we lose it. And no, the wild cards, which we have to grind for, are not the solution. No one wants this. We paid for the game, we want to use the cards we “earn” for the entirety of the game.

You don't know that it will be 9 or 10 weeks to get 99s, it could be or it could as short as 3 or 4, or more likely they could be staggered throughout multiple weeks through most of it.

    My gut feeling on this:

    1. SDS listened to the fans hating the format of seasons, but they still had 3 big problems.

           A. People bought fewer bundles to buy packs. So many 99's were out day one that it cut a bit into profit.
           B. People starting the game new were at a disadvantage in previous MLBTS releases, keeping the season
format allowed players to start when they can and still be competitive in the current season.
           C. TA content would drop and people would grind for 7-10 days and be done. More releases per season is
not the same as bigger releases once a season. For those angry about cards being locked like they were
last year, there are 4 wild card spots so it is a solid solution. But, don't be fooled by gradual progression.
MUT uses gradual progression and you get an 85-87, 89-91, 93-95, 97 and 99 of the same card.

SDS has to make money, their program has gotten bigger. They added Switch and XBOX and are supporting current gen, prior-gen, PC, and likely future-gen efforts at the same time now. Looking around the game developer landscape, cuts and acquisitions are happening every week. I like that SDS is taking a chance at some change, but a lot of gameplay is going to get a new bow on old wrapping paper until a PS Pro/PS 6 architecture is available IMO.

    @FellsPointGuy

    A) Is speculation. We don't know how their stubs/pack sales went.

    B) I don't think late starting players were at any more or less of a disadvantage than they were in previous years.

    C) No matter what SDS does or how much content they release there will always be players who grind it all out in a fraction of time allotted. For every person who does that there is somebody else who never gets it all done because they don't have the time or feel like it is too much or too overwhelming. Even with the new team affinity format with new content once a month there will be people who have it done in less than a week, others who will take all 4 weeks and still others who won't complete it.

If SDS focuses in on the casual gamers then the hardcore grinders will get bored. If they focus on the hardcore grinders then the more casual players will feel like they can't make any progress. It is a tricky balancing act to find a good middle ground to try and keep both extremes happy.

@buckeye7 Well, Wild cards are the solution … to prolong the time you can use it … and who btw is „we“ ?The 3 people complaining about any change all the time to then cry about no change happening at all?
I did not like 23 either, but the way they pesented the concept … it sounds like a good change … to have power creep back, to make live series cards viable and more focus on lineup construction …

Seems like all they did was double down on seasons by combining seasons and sets. If I'm understanding how it works correctly, once the season is over, all cards except wild cards are no longer useable for the next season. So basically, each season is the new "set".

And why does offline content have the same season/set restrictions (12 weeks)? Why would SDS care if people, generally casuals or less skilled players, take longer to complete offline content? They would be earning lower rewards than the current Season; they are playing offline content so no "competitive advantage, and they are engaging with the mode. Does SDS dislike offline only players?

For what it is worth, live series cards are still Core cards that can be used in any season. I know that almost nobody uses live series cards but they are returning. They may actually be used more this coming year since nothing but a few wildcards are available at the beginning of each season.
