Whatever happened to just playing a game because you like that sport it's representing?

Was Sets and Seasons awful? No really. Was it poorly planned?
The idea behind it was for people to not use the SAME cards all year long.
The MAIN problem was releasing all those 99s early.
Granted, by Season 3, cards you grinded for/with weren't, other than one WC spot, weren't 'usable' in online and some offline modes.
I put usable in quotes because you could still use them, outside of the WC spot, in some offline modes. You just wouldn't get program specific credit for those cards.
I think if they started out with Golds and a few low Diamonds, with Set 1 and gradually moved their way up Set afterwards; it would've worked better.
Alot of you are saying that you won't buy until you find out if they're bringing back Sets and Seasons.
Me personally; I'd like to see them bring it back. But tweak it the way I mentioned above.
On a different note; those of you who say they won't buy if they bring back Sets and Seasons, and will NOT buy the game, all I can say is that at least the forum won't be as toxic as it was this year.

Starting with golds and low diamonds but make ta collections set collections and live series collections 99’s day 1 but diamond duos programming low diamonds and golds so the game doesn’t get stale by July

Yes. Naturally anything that is behind a collection would be 99s. Especially LS and Set Collections. And make the main three cards associated with those collections Core cards. The ones along the way, Set 1 Jazz, can be Set associated.
TA: Ones in the actual Program, at least for TA 1 and 2, should stay in the low to mid 90s. Now the main ones, like the Carroll AS from Set can be 99s.
And the work your way up to TA 5 and the 97-99s.
IMO

That’s what I have been saying. The day 1 99s and the sets and seasons together was the problem. If they removed the 99s day one sets and seasons wouldn’t really matter at because of card progression
I liked the set collections vs the huge collection with all the different card types. The set collections kinda replaced the bosses from the inning programs in previous games because the bosses in the programs this year were not that good.
It’s a shame they aren’t showing us the 1 thing everyone is waiting to see, if there’s sets and seasons. But instead show us story lines of Derek Jeter which should’ve been in last year when he came out.

Games started making people angry when it got to pay to win. Thanks EA.

I’d be pretty surprised if they scrapped sets and seasons after the first year. Seems a lot more likely they just tweak it like you are suggesting. It wasn’t just too many 99’s. We got too many end game type cards like the 99 Trout on day 1. The collection rewards have to be significant, but the other early 99’s should be guys like Tony Gwynn or like the George Brett collection reward from 22. Start with the guys that aren’t maxed out everything. By the time Gwynn’s finest card rolls out, it’s not even usable.

How is it pay to win?

You get the best cards early if you buy stubs to complete collections.
Old games just to be Sox vs Yankees. Right? You have that team.
Now. Whether it’s time or money. It makes people angrier. 100%.

on top of the sets this year - the graphics are just poor at this point - 2012 looked similar - we have had a ps5 for years now with 0 updates or attempts - that being said, there are some positives in this years game - it feels smoother with less laggy / less drop outs but on the whole - why would anyone want to buy the new game in its weak state?
are you really looking forward to buying it for the new storylines which are essentially moments masqueraded with cut video scenes?

The “time vs money” dilemma in The Show isn’t something that makes me angry.
I didn’t particularly mind Sets and Seasons. Here’s what made me upset:
-
moments, showdown, conquest, mini seasons, play vs CPU ALL play differently when playing in the same level (rookie, vet, etc). If they want a mode to play differently, it’s called “Extreme”, put it in there.
-
Having to grind TA and collect ALL the cards in order to complete TA3,4,5 sets. And the silly “useless” rewards in each program (500 stubs, a pack of Live Series cards, etc).
-
Rewards that aren’t sellable. If I earned it, I should be able to do what I want with it
-
Finaliy, the 5000 versions of 99 Schwarber that we got. How about one 99 per player?
Anyway, these are the reasons above that I get upset and am waiting to buy 24. That, and I’m working on finishing TA3,4,5 collections before I even think about 24. I’m leaning towards taking a year off to refresh.

Pay to win means the only way to win is to pay. That isn’t true at all. Some guy on here about 2 months ago said he got all the cards and didn’t pay a penny more than purchase price.

That's a ridiculous take. "Pay to win" clearly means that a mode is tilted heavily towards purchases. This most often means the other ways to win are either being godlike at the game (1-10% of players?) or making the game your full-time job.
You can take things literally if you want, but people often use terms loosely and we know what they mean.

I'm with you and I agree that Sets and Seasons makes a return with some tweaks.
My biggest issue was, and I will use my favorite team as an example, that we got the following cards in Set 1
99 Bob Gibson
99 Ozzie Smith
99 Jim EdmondsThree Cardinal Legends whose best card in had to stop using at the all star break and could not use again until December. Set 2 gave me 99 Stan Musial, who I had to eventually stop using in Sept.
Nobody is thrilled with the prospect of being asked to stop using a 99 and settle for a lesser 97 card instead.
-
By the OP Logic, I then definitely wouldn't buy the new games unless I want the roster update. And granted, that's a good enough reason for a lot of people. But if I just want a baseball game because I love the game, and I don't care about what updates they put in, I should equally be fine keeping last years game and playing that.
For me, it's the content of DD that drives me to the newest game. In that regard, I very much care about what changes they make. If the programs and TA are going to mirror last year, I may not get the game this year. I didn't like the repetitive nature of the TA program or that I couldn't use my favorite cards for half the year.
To each their own

At least it's better then Madden, NBA2K and Diablo 4
