Corbin Burnes to Baltimore

Love this deal as an Orioles fan. Offering the competitive balance pick and then getting an end of the first round pick in 2025 if Burnes turns down the qualifying offer. Hall has good stuff, but his command can be an issue. Ortiz needs consistent playing time and he wasn't getting that with Mayo, Holliday, Gunnar, and some other available for the left side of the IF. Based on what the White Sox wanted for Cease, this was a much smarter deal. The O's rotation has to be a top 10 unit now and this move likely pushes Tyler Wells and Cole Irvin into swing starter/ pen arms. Part of me wonders if the Orioles have another move on the horizon.

Very interesting. I was actually shocked to see this as it’s a brilliant move. Did I miss something? Has Angelos died or what?

Angelos is in a vegetative state from what I hear. But yes, the Orioles were sold. Angelos will keep 30% ownership until he passes away.

Well in that case I apologize for my rather distasteful comment however it totally explains my conundrum as to why it seemed out of character. I’m now quite interested to see who this new owner is because that’s all that was holding them back in my opinion.

@BxnnyMxn__PSN The new ownership group is headed by a billionaire named David Rubenstein.

Big boy move by the O's.
I'd like to see his numbers vs. Juan Soto, since they'll see each other a lot. -

Wow this guy has quite the résumé. Lifelong fan with billions at his disposal…watch out for the Orioles! Ownership has been their biggest Achilles heel for a while now I’m actually pretty optimistic for their chances now. Did I see correctly that Cal Ripken Jr is one of the members of his investment firm? Very promising signs coming out of Baltimore

@TheGoaler
With the new Major League schedule format altered recently no team will play their division rivals as often as they used to. The Orioles will play the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Red Sox only 52 times each year now (down from 76 like they did in 2021). That means they only face the Yankees 13 times. But for stats sake, Soto is 1 for 1 with a double against Burnes.

Yes
"In addition to Ripken, other shareholders include NBA Hall of Famer Grant Hill, former New York City mayor and billionaire Michael Bloomberg and former Baltimore mayor Kurt Schmoke, as well as Michele Kang, Mitchell Goldstein and Michael Smith. The deal is still pending approval from MLB's other owners."
