If our opponent quits out after an inning or less we shouldnt lose starting pitcher stamina. Pitcher energy should be at least tied to pitch count. I have started using openers almost exclusively to combat my starters being wasted with people quitting out. You can have a started throw 2/3s of an inning and then need 4 games rest the way it is right now. Tying it to pitch count just makes more sense. If I only throw nine or ten pitches with a starter I should be able to bring him back after no more than a game.
-
I agree. It makes no sense.
-
I have wondered why stamina isn't tied to pitch type. I have faced guys that had Ryan on the mound, and it was obvious there was no way they were taking him out regardless of what happened. If you are going to blaze 100 pitches at 102 MPH every time, then your stamina needs to take a MASSIVE hit.
But yes, your opponent quitting after the first and your stamina takes a full 9 inning game hit is not good.
-
I am with you … stamina should only take the hit according to the pitches/innings he threw.
I am not okay with Nolan Ryan taking a stamina hit with 100 pitches. He was a horse, he could do it. Maybe he should be the absolute stamina max -
I am indifferent since I do not play online but if I were to play devils advocate I could come up with maybe 2 or 3 responses SDS might use, because they won't tell us one way or the other.
-
The game counted. The pitcher got the win. So the stamina hit happens.
-
If a pitcher pitched 2 innings in real life and the game was rained out after a couple of innings that pitcher would not pitch the next day.
-
What happens if you have 2 or 3 opponents quit in a row? Should you be able to just keep running out your #1 pitcher every game until you play a complete game?

This. This. And this.

You have a rotation of 5 pitchers...You've probably got all 99's in there at this point...just move on to the next pitcher and call it a day. By game 3 he'll probably be back to full Stamina.

I am not okay with Nolan Ryan taking a stamina hit with 100 pitches. He was a horse, he could do it. Maybe he should be the absolute stamina maxOK, I used him as an example, but it seems like anyone with a meta pitch used by a weak player who can pitch but is a terrible online hitter will use that player and abuse the meta hoping that if they can luck into an RNG homer they can win 1-0.
FYI I just looked it up. Since MLB began tracking pitch speeds in 08 the record for a full SEASON is 392 by the Duran of the Twins. How do you expect me to believe that a pitcher can do 100 in just one game?
-
@darkblue1876_PSN Yes, right … but this is not „MLB The Show everything is based in current things“ … And you can‘t compare a closer to a workhorse.
But: 100 is still possible … I just looked up the reigning AL Cy Young Gerrit Cole … He had 17 games with over 100 pitches and he throws a lot of gas—> https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/gamelog/_/id/32081/gerrit-cole
But, again … I get your point, very valid point … Fewer guys should be able to go over 100 pitches. They nerved Nolan a little bit with bad control. But … on the other side: Who takes pitches and works the count besides Cbrev and me ?
-
What I meant about 100 pitches, was pitchers throwing 100 pitches at 102 MPH in the game. Nobody can do that for an entire game. Ryan and Johnson seem to be the extremely rare exceptions.
-
ok, now I get it … The amount of Fastballs at max velo…. First of all: Stamina isn‘t even „in control“, this would be an addition … slow degrease on max velo, maybe together with stamina … so you have to balance out how often you use it
But again: Nobody works counts, would not help imo
-
@YOSHI24 I agree a lot of people don't work counts, but just because they don't, doesn't mean that they shouldn't be rewarded when they do. I started doing that before the 2020 server shut down, and while I was still struggling, added a lot to my team batting average, and at times was almost competitive with the 600 level players.
Maybe that's part of the problem. So many players swing at every pitch, knowing RNG will eventually reward them.

I’ve been gone a few months but I always worked counts, that was the key to becoming a competitive player at my old age….

Wait, so you were complaining about cards being rotated in sets and losing players from your Cardinals theme team when you were able to use them anyway? I thought restrictions were only for online games.

Restirctions were for offline content too, especially when the content was tied to a specific program in a specific season. Conquests were usually tied to the season or program that they were introduced in. Mini seasons were too.
So while I could certainly play the USA conquest over and over again or simply play VS CPU mode and use any player from any set, neither would really progress any other programs if I wanted to earn more rewards.
