The behind the back 360 catches by the pitchers. Too many of these. Unrealistic.

Too many jump throws by infielders. I had Larry Walker doing them when I played him at second.

I nearly choked when I read that. For some reason I pictured him with his batting helmet on backwards while doing that jump throw. That face he was making that night when he put that helmet on was the definition of comedy…….well it was until I thought of him doing a jump throw from 2B!!! Hahaha

I read about him running from 3rd straight across to 1st without touching 2nd once after a fly ball was caught. Such a fundamentally raw player when he was drafted.

Back on topic. So they have him playing second and I was like no way did he play there. I found 1 game where he played 1/3rd of an inning at 2nd and fielded nothing yet he can play there like a diamond rated fielder. 🤔

Another thing too. Being able to put Jimmie Foxx or Craig Biggio in at catcher should really make them drop a lot of balls in the dirt.

They played badly out of position and almost were unusable off position. They even showed off Ted Williams dropping almost everything playing first in their streams back around 2019. Maybe people around here complained.

Hey Biggio was a very solid catcher back in his day if I remember correctly he made it to the majors as a catcher and it wasn’t until they realized what they had that they moved him out into the field so they could save his legs and boy did that decision pay off. He had a strong accurate arm and an exquisite pop time lol although the term didn’t really exist yet.

That being said I totally agree with yall that someone who gets to play backup catcher for no other reason than the team having an extra set of gear lying around that fits them certainly shouldn’t be fielding that highly complicated and dynamic position like the reincarnation of Benito Santiago!! I threw out a player with 86 speed and a 56 in steals the other night with Carlos Delgado behind the dish lol

That sounds like my entry into high school baseball right there. The guy who got to play because he fit into the catchers equipment.

I think fielding in general is ridiculous in this game. Way to many diving plays, running balls down in the gaps, ricocheted line drives, jump throws, behind the back catches. My belief is that fielding is made this way to decrease the already elevated batting averages and HRs. If they made the fielding realistic everybody would be hitting well over .500. That being said it just goes to show baseball is arguably the hardest sport to replicate in a video game.

The game use to play perfect when the main focus was franchise and RTTS. I still think MLB10 was the best franchise gameplay wise in terms of challenge from the CPU. It was a challenge to make the post season and win the World Series. My team batting average and ERA was in line with reality.

I love playing DD but it’s very arcade style and has changed the entire game. Tom Henke probably threw 95 not 104.

    @fubar2k7

Totally agree. I think with DD they just kept raising the ante with 125 everything and outlier pitches to the point where the game is extremely unbalanced. This results in weird gameplay as the CPU tries to reconcile inputs with extreme ratings.

On the Tom Henke note he is a great example as I grew up watching baseball in his era and he never sniffed 103-104 mph.

The going over 99 was suppose to be how they made players like Babe and Willie stand out above everyone else. Now some random guy gets a pinch hit homerun and he’s given a Topps Now card that’s equal to Willie Mays.

Just had a 107mph line drive hit Max Fried in the back and I got thrown out by the catcher by about 10 steps. The very next batter hit a missile bouncer up the middle, he 360’d behind the back and caught it. I hate this

Something I'd like to see fixed...When the CPU is up to bat...they always know when they can advance to the next base. Now yes, I've thrown out plenty of runners advancing, but they don't seem to freeze waiting to see if a ball is going to drop in front of someone like my guys do on the bases. I roped a line drive down the line the other day, and i get Freezing cause it was kind of low and the third baseman could have jumped and caught it...but he was actually going to 3rd to cover the base, not even attempting to catch it. I had runners on 2nd and 3rd and both of them retreated back to the base and dove in...my guy on second didn't even score cause it took him forever to get back up and run to third.

Oh and the rocket line drives to first where the First baseman catches it as he's turning to tag the guy on first...that's gotta go. Probably happens once a game.

@Dookie-Possum honestly I find them not catching them more often. Usually knocking them somewhere or not touching at all.
