Barry Larkin Struggles?
-
Anyone else struggling with the 99 Larkin? I was excited to pick him, but after 170 at bats my average is well below 300 and i can't seem to hit anything against righty pitchers. Any advice on how to hit better with him?

His power is really to the pull side. He can get hits to right field but usually only singles through the hole or the odd ball that finds the gap in right centre or down the line. Even against lefties I find that his oppo power isn’t great. Where you’ll really make your money is left field and left centre. You really want to pull the ball with Larkin. Look inside and be patient until you get one middle or in. The good thing about Larkin is that guys aren’t really afraid to pitch to him because they don’t see him as a power threat. That means that you’ll get plenty of pitches on the inner third to pull for power if you’re patient. Almost all of my homers vs righties are on fastballs down and in, or on something soft middle down. Against lefties, most of my homers are on fastballs up. To sum it up, you need to pull the ball, but he doesn’t have a long swing that can pull outside pitches for power, so you need to be selective and get a pitch in. That’s the best advice I can give on Larkin’s swing. Larkin rips, but sometimes people just don’t click with certain cards due to their hitting style. He’s more difficult to master than say, Joey Gallo.

Thanks for the insight, i will give it a try!

He's terrible, I'm definitely picking him last.

Meanwhile, I’m still gutless with Ryno. Only played a few RS games in CS with him though.

Yep, this thread is why I have always said card advice is stupid. Some people dont play well with cards that others love. And vice versa. I remember on 18 a lot of people hated Joe Torre, but there were a few people that raked with him. I've liked Larkin cards since 17 besides being my favorite player, he has a great swing.
