You guys do realize ballplayers can turn down the cover right?
Yeah because which ballplayer would want to grow their brand and name recognition by accepting the honor of being on the cover of the only video game available in your sport? Oh wait, literally everyone. Except for Barry Bonds but that was for other reasons.

Actually baseball players are pretty superstitious, lots of them turn it down, do you really think Jazz was their 1st pick?
If so, I feel a little bad for you.

Jazz being the 1st pick makes total sense, you're so right and never wrong, sorry I doubted your intelligence, you must be a god.

For those of you that actually have intelligence, it's like going to the bar to pick up on Women or Men, you might try with 10 people before 1 actually shows you interest, so are you going to talk about the 10 that turned you down or the 1 that accepted you?
SDS is definitely not going to talk about being turned down because it does not help them at all, so they celebrate the one that does accept the cover.
It's simple logic and common sense.

This is how my I know the LS ratings are mostly made up. I’m sure someone will jump in and say-
- 3 year average!!!! - He has never played 130 games in a season and his second best total is 60.
- They don’t mess with injured players. - maybe that’s true but it’s a rule they made up.
- There’s an algorithm- are you really telling me his 0.8 WAR this year and 5.6 career WAR passes that test?
He’s the cover boy! Thus he will be a Diamond all season. They are dying on that hill.
I don’t actually care but I can’t sleep and I’m playing the Marlins and was shocked to see he was still Diamond.
Ok feel free to tell me why I’m wrong haha.
Let's be real Jeter was the real cover guy this year no disrespect to Jazz but Jeter was the guy that was going to generate sales not him
Well, the guy on the cover sure does seem to look a lot like Jazz
I mean, yes he is, but they’ve sort of leaned into Jeter and the deluxe cover more. The Incognito series is a total play on the Jeter cover, the Captain cards. They obviously are rude or die with Jazz, not much you can do mid season when your cover boy is not playing well.
That’s why a guy who had one decent ore all star stretch before getting hurt shouldn’t be the cover athlete.
Next year it should be one of the following in my humble and unsolicited opinion-
Ronald Acuna Jr.
Mookie Betts (How has this not happened)
JoRam replete with .
Kyle Tucker
Nolan Arenado
Juan Soto
Freddie FreemanThere are many others of course.
They should've went with Julio Rodriguez imo and for next year definitely Acuña.
JRod was the cover for MLB Tap Sports Baseball this year.

I’d imagine companies have a clause in cover athlete contracts which prohibits one person from being on multiple covers in the same year.
Imagine in the old days you’re a parent shopping for your kid and don’t know games too well. You want to buy The Show with (example) Joe Mauer on the cover. Instead you buy MLB2K with Joe Mauer on the cover. Oops.
I guess closest to todays era would be Jazz on The Show and RBI. Could be easy mix ups.

That’s a good point there are only 750 or so active MLB players it so it would stand to reason that you wouldn’t want to pick the same player twice to be the cover athlete for both games during the same year. If anyone does get such an honor it should be Ohtani and I think it’d be cool if they just named the game “Ohtani Baseball 2024” next year as I can’t see him not winning most of the accolades for the next decade.
They got it bad wrong this year however it came about. I’m all for people bouncing back though so maybe once he has this season behind him he’ll reach his higher potential like in Ninjago Spinjitsu

Jazz very easily could have been the first pick. Neither of us will ever know for sure though so there is no reason to insult others.
What I do know is that last May, Jazz visited the SDS offices and many people, at that time, assumed that he would be the next cover athlete.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wx5KPztb_vc
This was still when he was hovering around a .300 BA and had 10 HRs and people thought his showmanship was entertaining. So yeah, I could see him being their first choice and them making the call too early last year before he got hurt.

Always fun when someone jumps in and turns the thread toxic. Also love when my intelligence is questioned because of a silly baseball rant. Please quote me where I said he was their number 1 choice. Believe it or not, I am aware that baseball players are humans and can make similar decisions to us. My entire thread was just to point out that it’s a little silly he is still a Diamond.
What should we argue venomously over next?

1 name, Barry Bonds. Not everyone wants to be a cover boy, sorry to prove you wrong and sorry you think I'm trying to be toxic. The classic word to use when someone has a different thought process.

You came in here and started insulting people’s intelligence. Funny thing is, I agree with your initial point about Jazz. I doubt very seriously he was their first choice. Which is why I never claimed as much. My post was simply about thinking it’s a little silly that he’s a diamond. Then In my next post I added who I’d like to see as next year’s cover athlete.
You’re right, toxic is a cliche and loaded word, but it was a tad insulting to toss out phrases like- “for those of you with intelligence.” What is the purpose of that? I love a good baseball discussion with differing viewpoints and have no problem when people disagree or think I’m wrong. I’m wrong a lot haha. But if that’s the way to relate to people, not much I can do about it.

For those of you that actually have intelligence,
Your having a difference of opinion. A difference that neither one of you can prove or disprove and your first inclination was to not just disagree and discuss the matter, but to do so by attacking the other person's intelligence.
You basically used the "You don't agree with me so you're an idiot" argument.
Jazz could have been their first pick or their 20th pick but there is no way any of us will ever know for sure which it is.

That's literally the name I mentioned and I specifically pointed out that his case is different. You are actually toxic because you call people less intelligent but fail to come up with any sort of source when asked about where you got your knowledge to back up your assumptions. All you do is use the rhetoric of a 5 year old to prove your point and it's just not gonna work here.

Javier Baez proved that they will never downgrade the cover athlete from a Diamond. He had a worse year than Jazz is having, but never got downgraded.

you are absolutely right mate - i have been saying this earlier in the year - SDS ratings are purely based on if they are friends with the players, there is very little accuracy in how they determine ratings

Hey if Byron Buxton still is one then anyone should be….
