Anyone else taking a break?

For me I am more for the sets because last year I had too many of certain series and not enough of others
Interesting... I never thought of it that way.
For me... I'm still burned out

Ugh. I think I'm going to take a few weeks off. I've finished 5 of the 6 divisions for TA3, I'm 3/4 through the current BR reward path, and finished the RS path (using all TA3 players).
And... I'm... burned out. I feel like Forest Gump after he ran across America 3 times... "I'm kinda tired... I think I'll go home now".
I've come to look at this year's edition as "work". I gave SDS the benefit of the doubt with the whole "set" thing, but I'm absolutely dreading going through sets 4, 5 and 6.
So, I'll take a break. I'll be back for sure, but I'm just not enjoying the game as much as I should.
Let me know where your heads are at this point in the cycle. Thanks!
Taking a year off worked wonders for me in regard to the burning out feeling you describe. This game specifically will throw hundreds of hours of chores at you and just not having to even think about any of it is refreshing. Highly recommend. Be well friend.

I'm done with TA's. Literally zero chance of getting Elly which might be the only card I really want at this time. Haven't played much ranked lately. Played a game yesterday and it was crisp, ended up with 20 hits. Very next game first inning against a 1000 rated player it was one of those laggy games. Quit in the 1st inning and watched more TV. I had no interest in sitting through 45 minutes of that. Take the L and do something more entertaining.

I guess I'll check out the shark map tomorrow but that could very well be it for the year. Sets/seasons just haven't done it for me. Cards expiring is pretty much diametrically opposed to an ultimate team mode. They can say "lineup diversity" as much as they want but it's all just part of the increased monetization of this game.
-
The grind to finish TA has been brutal. I'm at 70 of the 90 cards and have finished all the showdown and conquests and also completed a full mini seasons run. They need to drop the pitcher xp challenges down to 400, it's so brutal getting all the pitchers done.

I knew I was in a bad place when I'm at 88/90 and I just don't have the desire to finish the last 2. I will finish sometime, but no burning desire.

I wouldn’t say I’m burnt out, but I’m definitely (finally) realizing the “grind for 99” part of this years game.
Trying to finish Set 1 Collection. Even after finishing all Set 1 programs (TA, Topps, Monthly, etc), I’ll still be around 25 cards short.
That’s 250k stubs on top of all the grinding one has to do to even get there.
I’ve figured I’ll be about 20 cards short for Set 2 collection.
And I had to buy about 35 cards to finish Core collection
Again, on top of all the game grinding.
Yes, I am flipping like a madman. But, this is all a bit much, IMO.
I don’t recall having to do this for 2021/2022 games
SDS must give more and better rewards for grinding. I’ve said this before, I’m over halfway thru Season 3 XP-wise. I received a BIAH pack and 2k stubs. They should be ashamed to give that little for so far along in XP.

absolutely mate - the less i play games in general & the more i do real life activities it really sums up how mundane or "chore like" as you say the grind is in games today, esp this MLB one

Burned out myself and I hate how the game is set up this year. Got some great Set 1 cards that are unusable now and I see the same card is coming out as a 97. Not interested in that nonsense. I don't even have one division in TA3 past 50%. I just don't like the game at all really but I will continue to play Custom Leagues where I can use a player from any set and the guys in the league are good guys.

Yep. I did a little grinding when Season 3 dropped, but have been in franchise since then. I deplore DD this year. Season 1 was great, but only because it was launch.
This year's change is the perfect example of trying to please everybody and it backfiring. It is SO fricking stupid to drop 99's like candy on day one and then have "other programs" that "reward" you with 90-95 OVR versions of players who already have 97-99 cards. Then when Season 3 drops you have to retire 99 Trout and get the 97 version? Mmmmmm, okay.
When you have multiple versions of guys with attributes all over the place, it just highlights that they're making [censored] up as they go along. And then you have clutch as a real attribute that enables them to inflate or deflate OVR's artificially...again, no thanks.
No desire to get back on the DD hamster wheel until launch next year, but maybe not even then, and if so probably not for long. I think going forward DD for me will probably be completing the LS collection, then I'm out.

Sports games have become "free to play" mobile games, basically. Dripping you "content" that you "need" to keep you grinding, knowing that even if you don't give in and get out the credit card, enough people in the base will. They can all suck it.
Somebody out there needs to remaster the old, pre-card collecting titles like NCAA, MVP, Madden, from when they had excellent dynasty/franchise modes.
It's just franchise for me from now on. Maybe off to SMBB 4...

Spot on. The only difference is that people are still willing to pay a full price for a crappy game while all the mobile games are free to play. But people will catch on eventually.

Considering im going to 'take a break' for 3 weeks in August, just trying to get stuff done beforehand

what a wonderful comment - yes i completely agree with you - this whole thread is littered with excellent thoughts and good posts

Just seems like there's something missing this season. Grind seems like more work than fun and I kinda wish I wasn't as addicted to the game as I am. Having different amount of points for completing player missions on TA can be frustrating too. In a game last night, I finished missions for three different players but had no rewards because I was 5,000 away from the next one in each division.

I take lots of short breaks. I think I may have only played it twice in the last week or so. Been playing other stuff and coming back mainly to keep up on moments just in case there is a card I want in the Topps or POTM programs later.
I'll be honest, with the game release schedule being so jam packed the next 2 or 3 months with big, long games, I can see myself playing less and less.

You just described a chore - doing something that you don't really enjoy doing but you feel you should because it might benefit you down the road.

Actually, I am one of the weird ones who usually enjoys doing the moments. I'll take moments over long PXP grinds with players that I don't care about every day of the week.
If I hated moments then I would just not do them at all.

Not sure if you would consider this taking a break. But I haven't played since June 15th. And due to having limited function on my right arm and hand, due to the stroke I had during my surgery, and the 6 - 9 weeks of physical therapy I still have to go through; I probably won't be playing for the foreseeable future.
