Grind 98

Can it still be called grind 99 when some cards are only available in packs, and packs they stopped rewarding in conquest maps? Doesn't seem like they can say you can earn every card grinding when yoy have to spend stubs on only purchaseable packs![alt text](![image url](image url))

I think the term "grind 99" has gotten confused. I beleive it's like "Free 99" in reality you don't have to pay any money it's all "free 99" however I think most people associate it "grind 99" is I play and grind and get a 99 which has never been the case

It’s definitely been the case before. And “Grind 99” has came straight from Ramones mouth numerous times.
-
I think the difference is, we never had dozens of 99s in the game at this stage. There were the collection rewards which obviously weren’t free. I’m sure by the end of the game cycle we will get plenty of free 99s but they did straight jacket themselves by releasing so many 99s and then making it a trend that they are only in packs or BR/RS.
Just flip cards on the app when you’re watching a game and buy anything you want with their money.
-
Grinding is playing....flipping isn't really playing....kinda went away with the whole process unless the shark map is super loaded with packs later on. I feel sorry for those who try and collect every card. But the grind is truly real this year
-
Not really sure why there are comments asking if it can "still be Grind 99" - nothing has really changed in terms of the availability of cards from the past. You still get 99s from grinding the Season XP reward path, potentially 99s from the extra bonus spins, plus you get a 99 from the Monthly Award program.
Speaking of the Monthly Award program, do you remember when the Monthly Award program actually cost stubs? You had to buy the 95, 97, etc. OVR players to collect everyone for the lightning reward. Now it's a grindable program.
And this new Future Stars program, it may not have an actual 99 at the end of it, so I can see the concern there. But if you equip the Tucker and Kopech captains, you actually have a whole lot of 99-type players (even using other Future Stars cards not in the program)

Actually I don't. When was that. I know that in the last few years many people "rented" POTM cards to get it done quicker but I don't ever remember it being required.
Even if people don't agree with the new "Grind 97,. Buy 99" meme you can't deny that there are far more 99s that require your stubs than ever before. The Diamond Duo packs alone are 4 new 99 cards every week where you only option is to spend stubs on packs and hope to get lucky or buy the cards directly. That is fifty 99 overall cards already.
Future Stars Series culminates in a 97
Fathers Day culminates in a 97
Incognito culminates in a 97
Kaiju culminates in 97
Great Egg Hunt is a 97
Team Affinity/Charisma are 97s
Team Affinity 2 are 97s. -
A couple videos below from MLB 18 and MLB 17 respectively. In MLB 18, I think you could complete the missions without collecting the cards so it was kind of like renting the Monthly Award cards leading up to the lightning (but you could only get them from packs). And in MLB 17, you had to collect all the cards from packs to get the lightning reward
-
I think it was '19 and prior, the POTM program was very expensive to do. You had to collect a number of pricey pack only cards to lock in for the lightning. It was a very welcome change.
This year's change making all program outside of POTM have meh rewards? Not so much.

But again, I want to point out what CDNMoneymaker93 said, the term "Grind 99" isn't about 99 overall - it's about the "price" being free (as in $Grind.99 instead of $1.99, $5.99, etc). They aren't promoting that you get all 99s from the grinding philosophy, it's about getting free, good cards (not the best but still good) from just playing the game.
There are lots of other ways to grind your way to the best cards in the game. I have admittedly played a lot, and I have made great investments - but I am NMS once again on MLB (outside of the charity packs) and have many of the best cards, all the collections, and 750k stubs sitting there right now.
-
I think when most of us complain it’s because getting all the cards has been much more doable since 2019, so the past 4 years. This year the grind and stub cost has gone up significantly compared to years past. Even you said you have played a lot and invested a good amount just to somewhat keep up and you still don’t have every card in the game. It’s a huge ask for most casual players to do that and it makes most just want to wave the white flag. The changes made this year are great for the elite players and/or those that play the game multiple hours per day but awful for casuals that may just have an hour here or there to escape from their busy lives.

I collected everything in 21 and 22. I've come to grips with the fact I won't even come close this year. But I will say, I'm playing less and enjoying more.

DD was totally different in 17. It was more expensive in some ways but not all ways. It’s hard to even compare the two. 17 was before 125+ ratings so you could actually be competitive using some golds all year. They were also a lot more giving that year too. The stat milestone rewards were huge payouts.
I think 19-22 were actually mistakes for SDS. They made it way too easy to have the best cards and all cards. Great for us as a community (besides the negatives that come with making it that easy), but not sustainable for SDS when they need to see profit increases.
This is them taking a step back. But in SDS fashion, they over corrected and they weren’t subtle about it at all.

Oh I know, I’m not saying flipping is playing or at all what they intended. I don’t think I’ve ever once heard them even refer to flipping in a stream or tweet. I’m saying: since you can’t grind to every 99, take advantage and flip 99. I never do it from the console. When I’m sitting down and watching a baseball game, I flip cards. Some people play candy crush or solitaire, this is my mindless fidget spinner.

SDS is EA.
Buy these cards mutt sheep community.
This game was not cared for when they developed it for years. Cut, paste, and regurgitate.
Horrible....

Y’all about to be pissed when it’s grind 97 again

The only guy that I know that has been a collect every card every year guy for as long as have been around that will do it again this year is my buddy @rosborn27_MLBTS ( I salute

I didn’t mention you , Eric, as I have been around a couple years longer. But I expect you may go for it this year again.
