I made a list that may help those struggling with Moments…

I’d like to pass on some things that has made all the difference for me, and, while I generally suck, the moments aren’t an issue…so much so that when I read about those who struggle playing these situations, in my heart I wish there was some way I could play them in your place because I’d gladly do it…for anyone. Since I’m unaware of how I could possibly do this, the only thing left is to try and pass on what has worked for me…and perhaps they’ll work for you.
Different strokes for different folks, I get it but here are some things that might help:-
If you have a moment requiring 2 extra base hits, restart immediately if you don’t get one of them in 1st AB.
-
Disable PCI - it’s accursed! Watch the ball out of the pitchers hand and your eyes and thumbs will do the rest.
-
Swing when the ball reaches the transition point FROM grass TO dirt.
-
No matter what you’re tempted to do, only use normal swing. I’ve only played this year and last so maybe in years past it wasn't the thing to do (I’ve not a clue), but i can affirm that a normal swing is all you need now.
-
Stay off the low pitches. I used to sit with my knees blocking the bottom half of the strike zone to force myself to lay off these. If you can’t see the ball (hidden by knee), don’t swing. Use the knee fellers!
-
When pitching, never, never throw a breaking pitch. In moments, it’s fastball, change up. Remember cutter and sinkers are fastballs. If you don’t have a change up, alternate fastballs. Locate your pitches on the corners top and bottom and if you have to miss, aim so that you miss out of the zone, not in. Never, never throw a slider to this damned computer!!
-
Don’t hot dog around the bases and get yourself thrown out just because you got one of the hits you needed. Example is say ya need 3 hits and you let yourself get thrown out at second just for the fun of it…you still get your hit but what can happen later in the game you might end up with two extra at bats (chances) to complete the moment that you might not have gotten because the rally that tied the game to extend the game would not have ever happened. Those extra chances are difference makers. This is HUGE.
-
Don’t like a players stance or swing? USE THE KNEE! Block it from your view (like in tip #5 above) entirely and VOILA - no more cramped style. Moments are about the little white ball and putting virtual wood on it. That’s it. Can’t use the knee, drape something over the monitor, tape a piece of paper over it, do something to free up your concentration.
Now, are these tips the only way to do it? Absolutely not. Matter of fact you can hit a lot of homers by teeing off on the low stuff but I suggested to avoid them…the main reason is to try and train your thumbs (yes, muscle memory) not to pull the stick down so far that you pop out even with perfect. Instead retrain yourself to hit the top half of the zone and you’ll send the ball wherever you want. Breaking balls, when pitching, are very fun but one little mistake and cpu will make you pay. Remember, ya can’t hang a fastball, you can only dot that sucker.
Hope it helps. This isn’t a comprehensive list, but it might be just enough to help you get over the hump. Y’all can do this…heck if I can, anyone can just don’t get discouraged. Good Luck.

I agree with all this except for #6. The pitching formula vs. the CPU has always been fastball up and in, followed by a fastball up and in, followed by a slider or cutter waaay out of the zone. The CPU can’t lay off a slider that’s 3 feet off the plate.

I agree that works and use it all the time but if you hang it you lose the moment. Instead of risking the slider, drop the off speed down and in (pref just low of zone or right on line)after fastballs. Sometimes even waste a fb high out of zone just to add emphasis to the low off speed.
-
Another one I meant to put on the list is that if you have a particular moment that is wearing you out, skip it and come back….like a test question. I take it a step further and exit all the way out of DD and then come back to it. It may just be mental but 7/10 times you’ll nail the moment first try like Batman in the Lego movie

You can throw Sliders to the CPU. You just have to in moderation, because they do know if you throw them, for sure!

Again, I agree. I go front and back door with the slider with success all the time in game situations. I made this list specifically to help people who struggle with the moments. Maybe I should have made that more clear? I tried to but I’m guilty of using too many words as always and I think it keeps getting missed in the skimming? Just last game I setup down and away with a slider, let it fly and it goes right down the middle! He missed it, thank goodness, but that was just lucky. Think of all the people just today that mentioned how they work a pitching moment down to the last batter, last strike only to lose it.
Think about the difference in speed between fastball/slider in comparison to fastball/change. To give yourself the best chance in a situation where you stand to have to repeat the moment, why risk it? That’s my point. A slider doesn’t always go where you tell it to go…even if you nail the meter like I did a minute ago. This is all I’m saying here.
To the people who struggle with moments, who don’t want to repeat it or are have already repeated it, trust me, use the change up. Get the two strikes up high, maybe even a third high ball, then float the soap bubble in there and watch em whiff!

Love this list. I find that being drunk helps a lot too

I’ll take what I can get, brother! Momma always said even a backhanded complement beats nothing

Hahaha, realistically I definitely think there are useful tips in here and it’s nice that you took the time to plot it out for people. I had such a hard time with moments my first year.

I appreciate the tips.

Thank you. I hope they bear fruit for anyone willing to try implementing them. I gotta caution you (and anyone) when giving me kind words. I’m like the stray dog that wanders by…if you make the mistake of scratching my head you’re liable to never be rid of me!

I'll add one more thing to 2. Turn off hot/cold zones.

Great Tip! There’s a lot to be said about the “head game” aspect and really can cause you (me anyways) to lose precious focus on the ball. I believe the great Admiral Ackbar summed it up when he quipped, “It’s a trap”
