All 99s undermined their own game.

In my opinion coming out with so many 99s day 1 really undermined alot of the gameplay improvements sds implemented this year. The biggest one the claimed was defense now matters because you really feel it when guys have lower rated fielding. The problem is almost all the players on everyones teams have gold or diamond fielding day 1 so we never really got to expreience that trade off in 9 inning games.
Second was how much more varied the hitting engine is this year. Again, how many cards day 1 had pretty much max power both ways which has kept it homerun derby.
It just seems like they screwed up what could have been seen as a real great launch with this baffling content decision imo.

100% agree.

100% disagree.

It’s 100% a home run derby game. I constantly play games where all runs scored are via home run

They arent going to drop that many 99s this season i suspect and theyre already nerfing pitching. Then everyone will cry about the lack of 99s.

The gameplay hasn’t got enough love. I love how online plays this years. Fouls are a hit rough but one issue is better than 20

Same thing when I watch Streamers play...it's literally HR Derby.
That said, it's not all on SDS and the gameplay.
Some of it falls on the COMMUNITY.
Everyone wants to play at Coors...or a MAX elevation created stadium with fences as short as they can make them.
Everyone uses Normal swing. No one swings with Contact...even with 2 strikes, a runner on 3rd, and a slap hitter at the plate.
Everyone fills their lineup with mostly power hitters.
Year after year, cards with low power like Boggs, Gwynn, Ozzie Smith, and Carew are considered "unusable" by the majority of the community. So much so that they have to give ridiculous BOOSTS to the Power ratings of those guys (the most glaring is the Ozzie Smith Charisma card) just so players will USE them.
Let's be honest...while there is a portion of the community that is extremely baseball savvy, an even larger portion doesn't know much about baseball and is just here because hitting is like an FPS and they like to see HOMERS...but but but...god forbid you REPLAY one! You're going straight to hell if you do that.

The main thing that they undermined with so many high level cards so early is the concept of captains and Theme teams.
I don't think there is a captain released that will make a theme team competitive against an easy to assemble team of 97-99 players and pitchers.

SDS need to tie elevation to outfield dimensions. The higher the elevation the larger the ballpark has to be.
BTW, I played a game at a stadium with 830 elevation and game was 4-3 which is good scoring for a baseball game, I lost in a lineout with a 95mph exit velo and 18 launch angle with a runner on 2nd that IRL would’ve landed in the LF/CF gap and rolled over to the wall, instead the LF ran a marathon until he caught it. The ball was up in the air for 6 seconds… laws of physics mean nothing in this game.
I have played four games this season, all of them today and Im ready to not touch ranked again. Guys that strike out 14 times and swing at everything should not be a challenge to a person that is working counts and hitting the ball hard, SDS keep these guys in close games they have no business being in by basically nerfing the person playing better until the 7th or 8th inning.

You and I haven’t seen eye to eye on here about this years game and I know you think I’m a a shill, but I do agree with what you’re saying specifically about the lack of diversity in hitters. I prefer offline but have played much more online including in a league this year. It bums me out that so many great hitters are considered unusable because they don’t hit for power. Boggs is a great example. Unless a slap hitter has speed, he is basically useless online and that is a shame when talking about great hitters like Boggs.
