Perhaps there are a couple favorite players of yours that you play better with than their ratings might actually indicate...now those cards have value, and you know you can use them to keep your Cap number LOW and stack your roster elsewhere.

Personally, I think a cap with a number based on rating might be better. Maybe with a limit on players over 95?
I feel like that would give more freedom to choose players and less likelihood of certain players be repeated over and over.
3 with 95+ almost certainly means 3 99’s.
And if someone is able to find a role for a Silver who hits Lefties as a part time bench bat (Schwarber?) or a Bronze who can field and pinch run (Bubba Thompson or Berti?), they should be able to use some of those points elsewhere.
Making it 84 or below is going to push most people to find the best 80-84 player. Whereas a numbered cap might result in more variety.

First 1-2 weeks of play everyone has at least 97 rated players up and down their roster. So, if you play online you're playing against the same level teams
So your issue is that you're playing on a level playing field and getting smashed online?
Also, every time i see posts like this, i cant help but think the issue some people have with 99s so early is the fact that they cant just grind BR and events all day while manipulating the market and keeping the prices high for people who dont grind online but still want the cards.

The one thing no one in here has answered when asked is....whats the difference when your team of 88-90 is facing another full team of 88-90? Whats the difference when your team full of 93-95 is against another team of 93-95? What about when your team of 97 is against another full team of 97s?
There is exactly zero difference in any of that and the way it is now except the fact that we see a higher number in that shiny blue diamond on the top corner of the card. Get over it.
Anyone who’s played this game knows the difference.
First off, the game is going to play different with all these 97/99 cards especially ones with multiple 100+ hitting ratings. The game is also going to play different seeing as the amount of content of 97/99 hitters has outpaced the amount of 97/99 pitchers.
The second difference is it made a huge portion of cards completely irrelevant.
How many Live Series Captains have you played against or used? Collecting the LS collections for the card you got as a reward used to be a great way to build your team.

Almost none.
And that move took the new Captain “boosts” tied to those cards and also made them irrelevant. Which made the idea of people actually having an incentive to use LS cards irrelevant too.
What was the point of 98% of these cards?
I’ve barely seen any of them used. But I see WBC Lindor, Murikami, Santander, and Trout in almost EVERY game I play.
It honestly feels like they mapped out the content for the mode…and then one day a week before launch someone decided to bump all this content up and do 99’s from Day 1.
The question I’ve seen no one answer is what were the point of these Choice cards you got thru TA? What were the point of the LS Captain rewards for LS collections? What was the point of these Captains like Andrus and Gimenez, etc?
Is it even possible to get a Tier 3 boost with “Veteran” and “Breakout” cards? Why is there no “Rookie” or “2nd Half” captain?
The point of these cards was just to have one more notch on the way to Jazz, Trea, and Chipper/Babe/Pedro?
If they hadn’t flooded the market with all these 97/99’s maybe we would have actually seen people fight to complete LS Collections to use cards like Salmon, Musial, Snider, Rivera, etc, etc…
But there was literally no incentive to do that. And definitely zero incentive to actually PLAY WITH those cards. Not when they were instantly outclassed on Day 1 by those crazy juiced WBC cards.
Sorry…but anyone who has played the mode for more than a year or two knows the game plays a little different with 90s VS 90s then it does with 97/99s VS 97/99s.
Jumping everything up to 97/99s then makes even more cards absolutely unplayable.
If I know my opponents will be using a majority of the “meta” 88-92 cards…I can still get away with selectively playing some 80-85 cards…maybe with the goal of trying to Parellel them. Or play some 70-80s with a Captain boost!
But…doing that against a team full of 97/99s is just putting you at a severe disadvantage. One that only the top players in the world are going to be able to overcome
Take a step back and look at all the content and then look at how it’s all been used. Dropping the 97/99s this early did nothing but make 95% or more of the content unusable. It made lineup variety almost non-existent.
We’re approaching the end of Season 1…and I don’t think it’s been good for the mode.
I’m sure SDS has stats on cards used…and I bet the stats are heavily tilted to about 30-40 cards…and I may be overestimating that.
You think that’s a good direction for the mode from Day 1?

Prediction...SDS does a deep-dive Lessons Learned about the 2023 version and NEVER..EVER..revisits the early season 97-99 drops. Not just the egregiously high rated drops, but the sheer simplicity and wide-scale prevalence of these cards landing in nearly everyone's lap in the first couple weeks.
Brik said it well, no one cares about any card under 97. And that's a complete F-you to whoever inside the development team that came up with the Captain's and Choice series's.
Either that or the development team(s) weren't all reading from the same script. Failure of epic proportions for a company that did create one of the very best console Sports games of all time. Huge Kudos. But appears to have a very hard time moving the legacy forward with anything resembling engaging gameplay. Void of even the most basic MLB strategies for the most part. Weighed down with too much excess.

If I know my opponents will be using a majority of the “meta” 88-92 cards…I can still get away with selectively playing some 80-85 cards…maybe with the goal of trying to Parellel them. Or play some 70-80s with a Captain boost!
But…doing that against a team full of 97/99s is just putting you at a severe disadvantage. One that only the top players in the world are going to be able to overcome

What was the point of 98% of these cards?
I’ve barely seen any of them used. But I see WBC Lindor, Murikami, Santander, and Trout in almost EVERY game I play.
It honestly feels like they mapped out the content for the mode…and then one day a week before launch someone decided to bump all this content up and do 99’s from Day 1.
The question I’ve seen no one answer is what were the point of these Choice cards you got thru TA? What were the point of the LA Captain rewards for LS collections? What was the point of these Captains like Andrés and Gimenez, etc?
Is it even possible to get a Tier 3 boost with “Veteran” and “Breakout” cards? Why is there no “Rookie” or “2nd Half” captain?

The one thing no one in here has answered when asked is....whats the difference when your team of 88-90 is facing another full team of 88-90? Whats the difference when your team full of 93-95 is against another team of 93-95? What about when your team of 97 is against another full team of 97s?
There is exactly zero difference in any of that and the way it is now except the fact that we see a higher number in that shiny blue diamond on the top corner of the card. Get over it.
Anyone who’s played this game knows the difference.
First off, the game is going to play different with all these 97/99 cards especially ones with multiple 100+ hitting ratings. The game is also going to play different seeing as the amount of content of 97/99 hitters has outpaced the amount of 97/99 pitchers.
The second difference is it made a huge portion of cards completely irrelevant.
How many Live Series Captains have you played against or used? Collecting the LS collections for the card you got as a reward used to be a great way to build your team.
How many of those cards even got used?
Almost none.
And that move took the new Captain “boosts” tied to those cards and also made them irrelevant. Which made the idea of people actually having an incentive to use LS cards irrelevant too.
What was the point of 98% of these cards?
I’ve barely seen any of them used. But I see WBC Lindor, Murikami, Santander, and Trout in almost EVERY game I play.
It honestly feels like they mapped out the content for the mode…and then one day a week before launch someone decided to bump all this content up and do 99’s from Day 1.
The question I’ve seen no one answer is what were the point of these Choice cards you got thru TA? What were the point of the LA Captain rewards for LS collections? What was the point of these Captains like Andrés and Gimenez, etc?
Is it even possible to get a Tier 3 boost with “Veteran” and “Breakout” cards? Why is there no “Rookie” or “2nd Half” captain?
The point of these cards was just to have one more notch on the way to Jazz, Trea, and Chipper/Babe/Pedro?
If they hadn’t flooded the market with all these 97/99’s maybe we would have actually seen people fight to complete LS Collections to use cards like Salmon, Musial, Snider, Rivera, etc, etc…
But there was literally no incentive to do that. And definitely zero incentive to actually PLAY WITH those cards. Not when they were instantly outclassed on Day 1 by those crazy juiced WBC cards.
Sorry…but anyone who has played the mode for more than a year or two knows the game plays a little different with 90s VS 90s then it does with 97/99s VS 97/99s.
Jumping everything up to 97/99s then makes even more cards absolutely unplayable.
If I know my opponents will be using a majority of the “meta” 88-92 cards…I can still get away with selectively playing some 80-85 cards…maybe with the goal of trying to Parellel them. Or play some 70-80s with a Captain boost!
But…doing that against a team full of 97/99s is just putting you at a severe disadvantage. One that only the top players in the world are going to be able to overcome
Take a step back and look at all the content and then look at how it’s all been used. Dropping the 97/99s this early did nothing but make 95% or more of the content unusable. It made lineup variety almost non-existent.
We’re approaching the end of Season 1…and I don’t think it’s been good for the mode.

Everything you said was spot on. One thing I have learned about posting in these forums is it is a no win situation. If people say something slightly negative, but don't really say much to support it, then people will write them off and say they are not happy. If someone does what you did and write out a detailed explanation of what you feel is wrong or could be better, people say "I'm not going to read that". I feel these forums have gotten worse and worse over the past few years, and I rarely see back and forth dialogue that might be able to help SDS. It is normally just people wanting to name call and disagree.

The only downside to salary cap mode is...you'd see LOTS of bunt cheesers.
We all must admit, too, that no matter what SDS does we'll find a way to complain about it.
Bunting is part of baseball.
What about a Capped mode would make people want to bunt every time?
If someone wanted to build their team that way...let's say with lots of pitching, defense, speed, and good bunters...then go right ahead.
Maybe there's an advantage to it...maybe there isn't. The MATH is certainly against them. And they'd have trouble filling a roster with enough really good bunters.
At least with a Capped mode, you have the chance to build a team a certain way. You have to because you have limited resources to use.
Maybe a balanced team is the way to go? Solid at every position...two or 3 stars...no glaring weaknesses.
Maybe you're not a good power hitter...so you build a team around pitching and defense....maybe some speed.
Or you can rake so you load up on Power hitters...and don't worry about defensive weaknesses they might have. If you give up a run or two a game because of defense, it doesn't matter because you're going to try to outscore people.
Maybe you want to load up on dominant starters and go light in the bullpen?
Perhaps there are a couple favorite players of yours that you play better with than their ratings might actually indicate...now those cards have value, and you know you can use them to keep your Cap number LOW and stack your roster elsewhere.
Not only does it help everyone from seeing the same lineups...but it also prevents everyone from being forced to use the META play style.
Unless you ENJOY losing...it's almost impossible to go into a Ranked Seasons game with a team of slap hitters who hit for average. Or a team of fast guys who are aggressive on the base paths.
Or pretty much any team other than the META.
Which is why we see the same lineups over and over and over.
using the META is the same thing for every online game. This game isnt programmed for low overall cards to succeed especially on higher difficulties, just cause your using ovr cards doesnt mean its more strategy, i encourage you to watch the summer circuit, where the form of team building is different, you would really enjoy it.

Personally, I think a cap with a number based on rating might be better. Maybe with a limit on players over 95?

3 with 95+ almost certainly means 3 99’s.
And if someone is able to find a role for a Silver who hits Lefties as a part time bench bat (Schwarber?) or a Bronze who can field and pinch run (Bubba Thompson or Berti?), they should be able to use some of those points elsewhere.
Making it 84 or below is going to push most people to find the best 80-84 player. Whereas a numbered cap might result in more variety.
its a capped off mode that would has been in play for comp play, youcan still use silvers, their are silvers that play better then some golds, i.e bullpen brooks raley is better then some diamond relief pitchers especially on high dif, you will never see more variety, people will use the best squad they can use in any mode most of the times.

Very little if the game actually coded things with any sort of real-life consistent algorithm.
What's the purpose of just dummying down every event and making these 90+ players so accessible? It used to be fun those many years ago to still be fighting it out with your favorite 85 rated player (because you might only have one or 2 diamonds) 2 months into game play. Forget about that. 85 players haven't seen my roster since I've loaded it up with entirely 97-99 rated 3 weeks after the game dropped.
It's not a great strategy or motivator for many long-time fans. I'm sure some love it to death. But, it's like the "everyone gets a trophy" vibe. To the truly competitive , or even marginally so player, just sucks the life out of the game.

I did not say I'm getting smashed or smashing. I've won every online game I've played.
It's just boring I suppose. I'll slightly reiterate my point because it appears some (you perhaps) missed it. Within 2-3 weeks after launch of this year's game, pretty much every roster was composed of 97-99 players. That is a ratings range of 3. Which is pretty negligible. At most, if it was to be kept interesting, that range would be no smaller than 10. 90-99 players.
I understand, and you also said, it really doesn't matter in MLB the Show because ratings are barely factored into outcomes. I get that and agree 100%.
However, the first week of the season, when my roster was a fair mix of 80's/90's there was an element of strategy involved. In key situations I would bring in my higher rated relievers. For example, I might have a mop-up game going where I would be winning by 5 runs late and just bring in a 83-86 reliever. But, if I had a 1 run lead I would bring in my 90+ rated stopper/closer. NOW I pop up my bullpen and every single pitcher is in the high 90's. There is no strategy, just grab whatever arm because they're all about the same.
Strategy exits the game when all players are nearly identically ranked. And, again, your point that it doesn't really matter because this game doesn't put a lot of emphasis on ratings anyway is understood. But, at least, you can pretend it matters.

When every player on everyone's roster is 97/99 (which are basically the same thing)...any sort of strategy is gone.
Sure...there is still some in-game strategy when it comes to hitting and pitching...but not in terms of anything else.
Pinch hitting and bullpen use...who cares. Everyone is awesome, and almost without a flaw.
Same goes for building a roster. No need to sacrifice a bit of power at the plate in exchange for better fielding...everyone is a 5-tool player at every position.
Shoot even Ozzie Smith...with his 28 CAREER HRs...and .328 career SLUG has a 71 and 65 POWER!

Those ratings make Jeter's 99/88 Power splits look REALISTIC....I mean the guy hit a whopping 24 HR's one season...what an absolute beast.
They've bent the knee to their "lowest common denominator" gamers. Pokemon players who don't even know the basic rules of baseball...and who just want to play a FPS where they get to hit HR's.
It's a shame. This mode could be sooooooo much more.
They've made it dull and boring.
