Overall, I think they (mostly) nailed the concept of offering a "choose your own adventure" for content. There has definitely been a variety of cards being used!

However, content has gotten a little bit stale, and I think the main reason is that there really aren’t any clear long term goals to shoot for. In years past it was a great advantage to work on completing live series for the first month or so, and after that you could start collecting all the low tier cards for the big collections in the future.

Here's how I would have structured Set 1, maybe they'll do this next year....:

    1) Be clear on how the core collection will work:

At least show us the place to collect them and offer some low level rewards for now. They don’t need to reveal the big rewards just yet but we should at least know there will be a place to collect those...

2A) The set 1 collection cards (Pedro babe and chipper) need a longer shelf life - make them the first cards with the "Set 2" tag

At first I said they should be core cards but I think that is a little too much; we would see them all year long nonstop. Given the fact it takes a while to grind them and or a lot of stubs locked in to obtain them early I think a good compromise would have been to make them the first cards with the "Set 2" tag, so they would be eligible to be used right now in set one, obviously in set two, and then all the way through set three.

If it was set up this way it would be a big incentive to grind for a bunch of set one cards and lock a bunch of them in to get to that second and third pack.
If we’re collecting 150+ cards and or locking in a bunch of stubs those cards should be usable through set 3! Personally, I would be focusing all my stubs on the set one collection if I knew I could keep Babe Ruth and Pedro Martinez for a bit longer.

2B) Give us a wildcard for pitcher and hitter slot, that way we could each choose to bring Pedro and one of the two hitters with us.

A majority of average players are going to get their first choice pack this Friday once the player of the month content drops a bunch of set one cards, but others are going to get to their first or second weeks or even days before set one expires.

    3) Mark, Sosa and Jeter should have been the AL live series, NL live series, and MLB overall live series captain with small boosts.

Jeter should give all live series cards +5 clutch, and +5 contact either side. Maybe let his boosts stack with Big Mac who boosts all AL live series cards power by +5 and Sammy can give +5 fielding to NL live series cards.

As of right now I can’t fathom anyone locking in millions of stubs for Jeter when you have access to Trea Turner, Tatis Junior, Chipper, or even the 97 Jeremy Pena card RAKES for me!

**Too long, didn’t read: the set one rewards need a little bit of longevity, they should either be set 2 cards or we should have an extra wildcard.

With the current system there’s really no incentive to grind for anymore set one cards in my opinion, and their lack of clarity on the core collection/no off to the life series rewards leaves no long term goals to grind as of right now.**

Overall my grade of the game has gone from an A- to a B+

Only issue with 2A is that since Set 2 cards aren't active until Set 2 drops; they couldn't give them that designation.

I need to see who they offer as Set 2 Collect rewards to comment on the Core aspect.

Maybe when you get all 3 you can collect them and it parallels them to set 2 lol

As much as I dissed him before and called him my 1.5m stub slap hitter Jeter is leaps and bounds above every SS not named chipper and chippers primary is 3rd so it’s easy and in best interest to run both. Something about Jeters swing just makes it easy to cover the entire plate, his defense is A++, he has enough speed to steal and he will hit bombs off righties and lefties. He’s worth spending for over Pedro or babe imo and certainly the 3rd card in that set. The problem is nothing else useful comes out of that set because it seems halfway decent players have caught up to Billy and the rest of the cards are blah minus Sammy “Alfonso Soriano” Sosa.

As for extending them I guess we will have to see how they do the next set. I think that will give us a peek into the future. For all we know a lot of these set 1 cards could be replaced by set 2 before they even have to be. I’m already ready to replace Jazz, Trea, Sammy, Mukenata(sp?) can go. I’ll replace almost anybody I’m pitching with not named Bob Gibson.

Just can’t really judge what they should do until we see what they have planned in the future. Except they certainly need to lower the amount of cards needed for the set or give better rewards in between the players in the set collection. Because that third card is way to expensive to obtain.

i actually miss the specific set collections (Breakout, Topps Now, Rookie etc.) instead of lumping them all into one set.

Pedro, Babe and Chipper should be core cards. That’s a lot of grinding and/or stubs to get cards you won’t be able to use (aside from the one WC spot) after July.

I’m still not entirely sold on the whole seasons idea, but I’ll wait until the end of the year to see how it all player out. I do like that SDS is willing to go off script and try new things.

I’m not so sure how I feel about all these new TA2 incognito cards being 97s though. That seems kinda weird.

I'm with you. I give SDS credit for changing things up, even if I can't quite see where we're headed. I'm a little disappointed to see the new Captains are 92's. Maybe the "boosts" will be more potent this round? I'm dying to use more Captain-based teams, especially while knocking out Ranked Season goals. However, my teams are way overmatched.
