By next gen do you mean no longer released on PS4? I highly doubt that as PS5 is still pretty new on the marketplace and the inventory is just now getting there for people to upgrade from the PS4.
By next gen do you mean PS6? Too soon for next set of consoles to remotely be a thing.
I don't recall what PlayStation has in store for PS4's lifespan but I feel like it'll make it until 2025, and then we'll start hearing rumblings about the PS6 which will release at a time when the PS5 has a nice foot hold but those that have had it since launch will be clamoring for the next "it" system/console.

It wasn't exactly easily attainable until this year though.

Well, I would have waited a bit more, but Saturday night the PS4 gave a red light and a warning. Opened it and cleaned it, did it again Sunday (both times with my son playing a physical copy). I said "Son, grab your hat, we're going to Buy More".
I thought my wife would be pissed, but she's enjoying the sound of silence after years of F-18s in the living room. Toyed with the create a stadium thingy, but the stands alignment drove me nuts. And I have no imagination it turns out.
I was waiting for a couple of big titles coming soon to PS5 only, but now I don't have to. 25 yo me would have filled up the credit card and lived on sauce-less pasta for months. I'm a real grown up now!

I didn't get mine until the end of July 2022, so coming up on a year with it and only reason I got it is because I was finally able to order it through the email waiting list from Sony Direct and then shortly after I started getting emails that it was available for purchase without having to register.
I always find it hilarious when someone talks about how old something is knowing that not many people had possession of one until a year plus later.

I have a LOT of gaming consoles...2 Xbox series X's, a.PS5, a PS4, an older PS.and 2 old.gen Xbox's as well as a new Switch and 2.gaming PCs. (And for the record .I am in my 50's and am NOT a media creator but yeah I do have teenagers)...and The Show is amazing on the XBX ... yes I've bought it twice - for PS and XB .. I would love to see them build a next gen engine but for now I'm very happy with how the game looks and plays. It's enhanced on the XBX nicely

I blame Nintendo, actually. If it were only Sony and MS, I'm guessing 23 would have been fully next gen, 24 at worst. Unless Nintendo releases a new console (a generation late, as usual), it won't happen.
Ugh forgot about the switch version, I am 100% skipping the next year or two in that case. Not even as a complaint of a bad game, but it is just too similar each year. I barely bought this year
