Sell me on Set 1 and not Live Series Collection
-
like the title,
sell me on finishing the Set 1 vs selling all my set 1 cards and finishing the Live series collection?
will I be behind going forward if I decide to sell all sellable cards from Set 1 and move forward with LS?
or do I need to say the heck with it and lock in all those stubs for set 1?
whats the pros and cons to it ?

I sold basically everything except a Biggio (because I'm an Astros fan) until I finished LS. I'm up to 110 for set 1 and could have 120 if I collected my sellable cards.

how did you accomplish getting back up to 110 ? non sellable TA cards?

Chipper is the best card in the game. Trea can easily replace Jeter for now. Jazz is a really good card and pretty much on pace with Sammy. Tons of options over McGwire. Most of the guys you get from locking in are just not that useful.

Topps now also is very helpful

Tonight I'll have Trea Turner and at some point I plan on getting Jeter but soon I plan on grinding for stubs to get the Padres collection done before Tatis comes back.
But Set 1 is honestly gonna better to do first because lets be honest at some point Jeter is gonna be cheaper to get and although having a card like him would be amazing to have, I just don't see the point in locking in for him just yet since we are getting so many cards at each position that are just solid cards tbh -
LS is going to do nothing now except go up in price is the 90+ Diamonds are gonna keep going up, likely through mid to late August. With Tatis coming, that will make the price go up more.
Chipper is great for sure, and he can be used all year as your wild card, but Sammy, McGwire and Jeter are core cards (and don't forget the 96 Billy Wagner, who is a stud), meaning that 1B, SS and RF, and a LH Closer would be good for the entire year, and with a more set one cards coming still through Topps Now and Programs, most people at the very least should be able to hit 140 cards for the 1st one (chipper).

I'm 5 off from getting Chipper, i might focus on LS after that for a while
-
I personally feel like longevity wise get Jeter since the card will be good all year to use due to being a core card as well as Sosa and McGuire.
For me, getting the Set 1 done is my first priority to get Chipper then slowly work on Babe Ruth or Pedro Martinez but I'm leaning towards Ruth since once a Randy Johnson or Roy Halladay comes I'm using them more often then Pedro tbh.
Pitchers will be slightly easier I feel to get each set tbh and I feel like the next big collection we will get will be a pitching card most likely since there was none in the live series.
I feel like each set of cards is gonna be unique with a great player in each set so for sure I'd say do what you think is best.
Chipper being an end game third baseman though with right now being the best time to do it where there are cards that are quite a bit cheaper it wouldn't hurt to get some of them now. -
jesus you guys are all animals in this thread - i thought i was a lucky duck about to get my NL series for Sosa - i sold off all Set 1 cards that i received along the way - around 360K points in the program - i am 1 card away Monsieur Paul Goldsmith - you guys are crazy monkeys

I completed LS this past Friday. Sosa is great for me and McGwire is ok but defensively not good. Jeter has been good on offense but has already lost 2 games for me with errors. Getting a throw loaded up just for him to bobble it and not get a crucial out. I'll have Chipper by mid week and thinking of trying him at SS. I'll be trying out Trea this week too.

If the grind isn't too bad for these new charisma players then I'm hoping to be able to get the next set 1 collection player this weekend. Kinda leaning towards Pedro instead of Babe (already have chippers and LS collection done).

was thinking the same since so many 1b, dh, RF options, nad outside of bob gibson, ohtani, roki, theres not good pitching and those 3 really arent dominate imo

That's my thinking as well.

I’m terms of collections, but - as it stands, all the LS is good for is the LS. They are Core cards and those don’t have any type of collection.
I say that, but I assume they will add a Core collection or multiple for various categories like Award, etc within the Core. Otherwise, I really don’t see the incentive to collect LS other than, you like those players or you’re OCD like me and want every player card.

Don't you technically get more cards from Live series than set 1 at this point?

I finished the LS pretty much when the regular (not early) release happened and I am glad I did it....but I do thing the set 1 cards are more usable.
I am at 120 cards for Set 1 and I also completed the LS....but I am actually afraid to lock in more than 75 for set 1 (only the non-sellable ones) because I figured it's a lot of stubs worth of cards to lock in....and I'd have to finish the TA programs, and WBC etc, to get enough cards to finish set 1

Yeah but the Set 1 cards are probably better

Last year at some point after a few months I had every card in the game but i think that it is much harder to do this year.

Chipper and Trea >>> LS. I have LS completed and then Set 1 through the first pack where I grabbed Chipper. While I do like Jeter, Chipper and Trea are better cards straight up imo though always run those 2 guys out every year. While others disagree and I not here to say yay or nay, I do not like Sosa or McGwire personally.

i agree completely - im cashing everything in to complete my NL for now - my wild card is the Ohtani CP card
