This is the most pay to win the show has ever been

I really don't think this game feels pay to win at all. I have a good team and haven't even done half the grind available and haven't spent a dime on stubs.

If the better player has a team of 97’s - He will beat the guy with 99’s. This isn’t Madden.
Please. This game has removed any and all skill gap. That's why all you casuals are in full shill mode.
He's blowing smoke anyways... I will play Madden against anybody here that thinks a 99 team is an easy win over an inferior team. You go into MUT H2H with a 99 team and play a better player with a 95 team... you will lose. Seriously anybody wants to talk how Madden is no skill, prove it... let's play... I will let you pick my team.
Madden skill gap is knowledge. Mlb skill gap is actual stick skills.
Both games, a superior player with a lesser team will beat an inferior player with a much better team but a 99 vs 95 isn't that big of a differential. You get a 90 over team, still winning? I say no. Only a few guys can do that and they are usually comp guys.

There's no way this game is pay to win when having all the best cards doesn't mean [censored] if you still can't hit lol
-
If you think Chipper is that much better than Murakami or even Devers that it's pay to win then you just want a reason to yell at something. One of the 3 collection rewards will be free after like 2 more weeks anyway(there are enough free cards for Trea already). The only pack card you could maybe consider pay to win is Trout, who is half price of the LS Trout anyway
-
I would argue this year is the least pay to win then ever but I honestly don't think it ever was. While there are some very skilled players out there and the strike zone batting view has been honed by some...this game always felt random to me. Patience isn't rewarded and too many online games are won by hitting a ball out of the park on a pitch location that would be scientifically impossible to do. Even offline in Showdown I have had many times I can't do squat with my Diamonds and Golds only to complete the challenge by smashing a HR or RBI double with a common card with [censored] ratings.
I understand frustration with online play but pay to win isn't one but that's just my opinion. -
It's player dependent too. If a great player can perform with an all gold lineup, he'll probably beat a bad player with '99s.
I'm not a good player, so a player could still thrash me with silvers, especially with captain buffs.

Yes, they are giving out good diamonds for free, but the ones you can get for free are 92s and 97s or a flawed 99. If you hope to remain competitive online at the higher ranks their will be a new 99 card you will need for another 80k stubs.
Add to all this that these cards will expire!!! At which point they get to dangle a new season collection and a bunch of new 99s in everyone face.
This years game is absolute garbage. The gamplay is fun, and I love baseball, but this feels like a money grab.
as opposed to when the only high diamonds were collection rewards at launch? That was when it was really pay to win, most people dont even buy stubs, it is so easy to field a competitive team in this game, you can have 99's in this game but if you cant hit with them it doesnt matter the overall.

My only gripe is that Chipper, Ruth and Pedro should have been CORE. I know they are a set 1 collection but still

thats the fun tho in the wild card spot, you get to pick one, it makes building a lineup just a bit more tricky.

I agree. Just makes it harder to justify locking in any non sellable cards past the first choice pack. Right now Yelich would be my Wild Card

i'd bet yelich gets a better 99 down the road, id love to see him get a retro finest from 2018.

You do know not all of them are useless right? They have the wildcard option to carry over one player from any set I believe

Have you played on HOF or Legend in RS yet? Because that’s when you start seeing the cream rise to the top.
-
Anyone who claims that there's no skill gap in this game has never seen me try to hit righty-righty.
Please.

Its exactly the opposite for me. For the first time I see no reason to spend any real money.
exactly. Im not even sure what the OP is talking about. I got 99 Trout through the programs, i got Lou Gherig through the program for RS, and i got other "good" 99s through just playing....i normally have purchased 3-5 50 packs by now and ive only bought stubs once. I did buy another 50 pack, but it was from earned stubs. It is way easier this year to get cards (dont tell SDS lol)

This game isn’t pay to win. You can grind literally every card in the game if you are 1)good or 2)have loads of free time.
So, if you want all the cards, increase 1 or 2.
3 option would be to open up the wallet

This is the truth.
Also the truth: most people aren't that good and the grind is brutal, so the game certainly sets up a structure that incentivizes micropurchases.
Given the business model of the industry, SDS does an admirable job of providing a middle ground.

I said it before and I will say it again. I personally don't believe the game is pay to win but I feel SDS/Sony has leaned heavily into an aggressive monetization plan where players are paying end-game prices for cards that have expiration dates and will need to be replaced again in a few months. Seems like a cycle of overly expensive end game cards that the average player will not be keep up with.
Just because you don't have to spend money to get the stubs for these types of cards don't fool yourself into thinking that there are not a ton of people out there doing exactly that.
I can see people saying
"I want the Jordan Walker and Corbin Carroll cards but by the time I save up 300K in stubs a big chunk of their 3 months of usefulness will be over. I should just buy some stubs now so I can maximize my time with those cards."
-
Well, correct. They have that choice. Or you can complete the BR and ranked programs and sell those cards, or do both. This is a problem of people wanting all the cards but not wanting to work and/or pay for it.
I have played a lot (more than I’d like to admit) this month, but have spent no money, and have LS done and chipper. It’s doable. Grind and be patient and don’t buy packs. Packs are never worth it
