Captain boost with former players

Do the captain boosts only apply to current team players. I've had George springer in center and correa on the Bench for my astros team and i don't think they are getting the boost from the altuve captain card.

I know in madden players that have multiple team chems for all the teams they played on.

Each card has a team name attached to it (or free agent if no team) so that card only counts as that team. If you open the card it should show a team name.
