SDS gets their money, everyone gets their cards.
So it's working perfectly as intended then ?!
You struggle to ever understand anyone’s point so don’t hurt yourself.
If I can spend $ 100 and get the same level rewards as collecting the entire live series, winning WS or BR the system is broke. If I can do that 3x a week and get 3x the rewards every week, the system is broke by ____ many times? CaN HuNgRy HoLe FiLl in ThA BLaNk?
they arent the same level rewards tho, the live series is a core set, not just set one, available all year.

I've thought the move to Sets in an interesting change of pace. Game also feels great online. Making LS cards useable all year is also a nice perk, which really only started to feel true last year.
Anyway, don't get the complaints about the game, which has had seemingly fewer bugs than in the past.

It was a mistake. How boring and stale. Already.
Only way to save it is with some type of CAPPED mode. Like Battle Royale, but with cards we own, for 9 inning games and with a CAP on how we assemble our team.
Baseball is a STRATEGIC game. Both on and off the field.
This game is almost devoid of strategy at this point.
It's teams full of 26 perfect players on each side...and whoever is better at the "first person shooter" version of hitting wins.
if you're referring to the PCI as the "first person shooter" then thats on you, zone hitting has been the move for years, no need to belittle people for using zone hitting for better user input,
I didn't belittle anyone.
My point was/is that baseball is a very STRATEGIC game - on the field and off. By "off the field", I'm referring to roster construction and the statistical/analytical side of the game.
This mode is now almost completely devoid of strategy. Grind or spend money to put 26 97s and 99s on your roster...and see who is better at "first person shooting". That's the game online now. And that's what happens when EVERY PLAYER is basically a perfect 5 tool player with juiced ratings.
What strategy is involved?
Take a juiced up free agent scrub and he's basically Babe Ruth, maybe better. Take a SuperCharged Robbie Grossman and he's just as good as any player that requires a 60 hour grind to acquire.
That's what happens when every card is juiced in every rating. The ONLY thing that matters is your "first person shooter" ability.
Doing this also lessens the importance of the actual players. They don't matter. Except to superfans too dumb to realize every player is a 99.
That ability to be good at the first person shooter part of the game is IMPORTANT. But it shouldn't be the only thing that matters. But that's what the mode devolves into when every player is juiced and therefore basically exactly the same.

WTF does it matter if they are usable all year when there is a steady flow of BETTER cards being released in programs, packs, etc?!?!
They've taken away many of the advantages...like updates and Quirks.
So...why would anyone use Live series Trout now if they can get WBC Trout? They wouldn't. That's why I see WBC Trout on almost every team I play and have seen Live series Trout ONCE.
-
Usable all year means people want to use them all year. That didn't used to be the case. WBC Trout has to be your wildcard if you want to use him all year, which is now a strategic choice. If you parallel LS Trout and he has a good season, he could end up close to WBC Trout's rating, making him more valuable.
There are plenty of things to be mad about in the world and this isn't one of them.

I'm not mad at all.
I know how the game works. Everything you said is meaningless. Right now(and for the next 50 days plus the Season after that!) you'll be able to use WBC Trout. That card is 10 to 15 points better in every rating (35 its higher in VIS!). Has all the same Quirks. And because it's better will PARALLEL even faster because you'll get more hits with it.
Oh...and it's literally HALF the cost.
I get it. I know the Live Series Trout MIGHT go up. It might also go DOWN.
I know it locks in for Salmon...only IF the person has another 145,000 more to buy Live Series Ohtani...
There's almost no advantage to using Live Series Trout. The only reason - to lock in sets.
And why bother?
You'd have to spend another 150,000+ Stubs to do so...for the privilege of using a WORSE Trout card...and a worse Ohtani card.
Spend 250K for Trout and Ohtani WBC cards...both are ridiculously good End Game-type cards. And you'll be able to use them for like 110 more days. That's an eternity in this game.
Or you could spend over 400K for those same two Live Series cards. And Salmon. Those Live Series cards might go DOWN. They won't help you win games RIGHT NOW like the other cards will. Oh...but you'll be able to use them "all year". So...Season 1, 2, and 3.
But I can use the other two for Seasons 1 and 2...have an extra 150K...and they are MUCH better cards.
Yes. Those Live Series cards will help you get cards like Mantle, Mauer, Wagner...on your way to Sosa, Mark and Jeter...but there's already guys BETTER than that in the Marketplace. And there will surely be even better cards by the time Season 3 comes along and you can't use WBC Ohtani and Trout anymore.
What's the benefit of buying the worse Live Series versions of these two guys again? Because I won't be able to use them 110 days from now? LOL! As if 98% of guys playing this game are thinking 110 days from now. Hilarious.

Why did they decide to come out with 99's right off the jump? it's so awful like this, I understand at the allstar break... and late in the year to start pumping out super cards... but I don't understand the logic behind it. Also after 50 days base set 1 you can't use in ranked? so why did I grind my eyes out for these cards?... I'm remaining hopeful SD studios knows what they are doing but it's not looking good.
Because they needed to do something drastically different to remain interesting. Because the truth is that this game has become stale and boring, given the fact that it's been the same for years and years. Little did they know that this change would actually make the game even more stale and boring.
How would you know? You aren't even playing it
So I need to be playing to understand their strategy and to be able observe what's going on? I might not be playing, but I am following the trends very closely which is why I am still here in the first place.
I play the game and don't find it stale and boring...how can you, someone that doesn't play say it is stale and boring. You don't have any reference to make that statement.
Let me stop you right there champ. Just because you don't find it stale and boring, doesn't mean it is not in fact stale and boring. Like how I say it is stale and boring doesn't automatically make it stale and boring to you. I understand that perfectly fine, but apparantly you do not.
Secondly, I don't have any reference to make that statement? I have been playing this game for almost a decade, I have competed in the top levels against the top players for years. I have played the tech test like crazy. What do you mean I have no reference to make that statement? I am probably better informed than half of the people here and Reddit, so pipe down friend. You're a chump bro. I don't care about your ability in the game.
Don't say things you wouldn't say to my face. You can disagree with me and have a debate on every and any topic. But don't go down that road if you wouldn't do that in real life either.
okay take it easy, he has a point, you aren't even playing the game, so you cant really call the game boring, its just not a valid reason. It's like calling a book you never read because that's what a few others said.
This so far from the truth. This is not a book, it's a video game. The same video game that I have been playing for a decade, and don't tell me it's different because it's not. Just like 22 was no different from 21. Which was no different from 20. And so on, you get the idea. And like I said, I rigorously played the tech test. IT'S THE SAME FREAKING GAME. It's fine if you don't agree with me, we all have opinions and we are entitled to those. But don't come here and try to discredit my opinions because I am somehow not informed simply because I didn't pay money for this reskin this year.
i get that and its your opinion, but coming on here leaving negative feedback when you've only played the tech test, its just bad energy, the NGL storylines mode was awesome, gameplay feels smooth, like this is easily been the most I've enjoyed the show since 20. 21 & 22 were terrible. And its a baseball game, of course it's going to be the same, what do you want them to add, a free roaming mode? Like goodness man. You're opinion is yours but you've only had one piece of the pie not the whole thing.
i agree with what you're saying here - i am not dumping on Raes but you make sense with your post
That's fair, like I said everyone is entitled to an opinion and one can also be negatively in my direction. That's okay, as long as it's respectful I don't take offense.
some of the guys here brought up some good points though to be the devils advocate here - i know you are passionate about this game Raes but its true that this game is in the best shape its been since 2017 and i know you would appreciate that - the tech test i also tried out, it was horrible - completely a joke - this game today feels nothing like the tech test in case that helps
I still talk to many people who I used to compete with and unfortunately they share a different perspective. Also my gripe isn't per se about how the game plays from purely a hitting and pitching perspective. I have always made that clear. They can balance that a million times and some people will still be unhappy. No, my gripe is that the engine of this game, the core and the backbone of all systems hasn't changed in well over 6 years. The game is not optimized for current gen consoles (PS5/XSX/S). The netcode is laughable, freezing of online games still happens after I don't know how many years. Peer to peer connection is the same as before, it's just not good. These are the things that make or break the experience for me and they are always left untouched. Some new program and a few 99s at launch isn't gonna distract me from that, ever.
i completely hear your position mate - i have spoken with a few guys too this year who are in similar circles im sure - top 50 guys and its a mixed bag - half love half hate - you just have to pick your side of the pond
from me to you though - this has been by far the best since 2017 - id love to see someone say otherwise and no one is arguing about how poor 18/19/20/21 were
the price of this game for X hours of enjoyment is less than a nice lunch date too - something to keep in mind on relative value vs. enjoyment of time
Fair argument. To me though, I for once did not feel like giving them my money for a product where they did not do the absolute best they could. If you would ask every single developer over at SDS the question "is this the absolute best you could do?", what do you expect their answer would be? That's an honest question, not a rhetorical one. To me that's food for thought and motivation to stay away until things do change.
The vast majority, if not all of them, would say "Yes."
You, of course would be free to not believe them but I don't believe they are just phoning it in. In the end neither of us are there in their offices observing their work ethic so either one of us could be right or wrong.
The absolute best that one can do does not equate to perfection. It does not equate to bug free software.

in a baseball vitual video game hitting the ball and pitching the ball is the most important thing, strategy? For most of the players 700 and above theres quite a bit of strategy going on, were at a point where user input should be the common skill gap. you can plan and be strategic all you want but if you can't consistently hit in this game its going to be tough.

The absolute best that one can do does not equate to perfection. It does not equate to bug free software.
It has nothing to do with work ethic. And it also has nothing to do with what these devs are actually capable of. It's about restrictions and limitations being outlined by Sony and MLB since those are the names that are being represented by their work. Big corporations don’t care for change or artistic creativity. They care about making money. And since most people, like yourself, will happily give them your money annually for the same thing over and over again, there is no need for real change. If you don't even understand that basic concept, I don't know what to tell you.
-
I'm not mad at all.
Lol, yep. Definitely not mad. Now let me write a book about how not mad I am.
I don't even use all of my "best" players, because I have Buck O'Neil captaining (and can't hit with a few 97s for some reason). I'm sure some people just throw their best 9 out there, but plenty of others build a team they like. That's the fun of it for me.
There are plenty of other modes if you don't like where DD is this year.
