Good and Bad

First of all, like many others, I agree that 23 is a massive upgrade over 22 and I’m generally enjoying the game.
However, some minor tweaking is sorely needed. Way too many line outs, way too many perfect perfects either going right to a glove or experiencing poor exit velocity. The CPU pitcher either paints all the corners or hangs meatballs with no in between even on rookie. The CPU batter either locks in like they know what is coming, takes every pitch just off the plate, or fouls off a bunch of pitches in a row before getting a hit and likely a HR. Just a few observations that I’m sure many here can relate to.
-
CPU on rookie should be grooving in way more meatballs. They've upped the NMS grind tremendously while also making hitting on rookie more frustrating. Game is much improved. This sucks, though, 100%.
-
Yeah the only real differences playing the CPU on lower difficulties are a bigger PCI and slower pitch speeds. The CPU will still dot up your hitters and hit pretty much the same on Rookie as Legend including crushing pitches on the black and taking pitches just a hair off the plate. Makes hopping on to just zone out for a few minutes much more challenging then it needs to be. Not ranting just saying sometimes I just want to mash and not lock in.
-
Yeah, I'd love to switch off during the grind They insist on making me concentrate though.
Moments are especially awful this year due to pitcher nonsense when hitting. XBH are especially obnoxious.

i mean this with complete respect - but i just finished the conquest america on rookie primarily here - easiest thing i have done in many years - half paying attention doing emails / working counts / winning - gone are the days of conquest extreme style difficulties

I finished all the Conquests without losing a game. I'm not saying it's hard. I'm saying that CPU rookie difficulty should pitch in the fat part of the plate way more. I don't select rookie difficulty to work the count ffs.
-
The amount of PP that are 85-90 exit velo tho
-
Having finished all the conquest maps I agree they are very manageable compared to some I’ve played in past years. My 2 main gripes are the CPU dotting and nibbling the strike zone even on Rookie which is ridiculous. Not saying it should be all meatballs down the middle but having to work counts non stop is exhausting. As for the exit velocities I completely agree the ball is not traveling this year and I’m guessing that is the trade off for more base hits. This makes showdown extra fun as most of those rely completely on hitting a HR as anything else is almost a guaranteed out or double play.

i mean - isn't that baseball though? imagine being on rookie mode just getting meatball after meatball - what is the point of that? it would be eye watering level boring

But there are like 5 difficulty levels since it's a video game if you choose to play at a lower difficulty level then yeah it should be easier in all aspects. Just like if you want a challenge , the higher levels should be harder in all aspects
-
Yep, that’s what I meant. If the only difference on rookie is pitch speed there is something wrong.

OMG. I have lost count of the number of "obi wan" 360 spinning, no look grabs I have had lately.
Also not a fan of the AI getting free double plays whenever they need them.

i completely agree with everything you just said - i feel like rookie is one of the easiest possible levels to plan on - i could rake up 20 runs in 3 IP if i tried - everything does scale appropriately on a macro level here - HOF is harder than AS, rookie is you could be half eyes closed with a cigar in the other using your chin to swing

Hit an 85 mph perfect/perfect fly with Devers against a righty the other day. Thought I was seeing things, but ball died shortly after leaving the infield.

Wow, you're so impressive. I have stars in my eyes.
Seriously, though. On rookie more pitches should be thrown over the plate. That's the point several of us are making. Especially since PP's with power hitters are dying on the warning track.
I suppose though I'm just giving you the chance to respond with another flex, though. So go ahead. Tell us again how good you are.

you know mate - it was hardly a peacock comment that i made there - it was more of a polite way to say that you must be absolutely horrible and trash at this game if you think rookie mode is a problem - lets be clear here on that

I actually dropped a game on rookie. I was bleary eyed and couldn't focus and I mean, even if I am having a terrible day I will rarely give up a run, a few walks because the CPU even on rookie somehow has a GREAT eye.....but I couldn't hit anything and I gave up a no doubter,,,, it happens. Def don't try to work counts in conquest rookie tho....just wanna swing and get the game overwith and move onto the next turn in conquest.
-
I cant believe people are complaining about the difficulty on rookie. Is this for real? Rookie is simple as it is. Timing window is massive, sweet spot is massive, easy to hit and easy to get strikeouts. Every once in a while I'll lose a game on rookie and it'll be 100% my fault because I either grooved a pitch or swung at [censored] because I was watching something or doing something else at the same time but I dont lose on rookie when I'm paying attention.
If you lose a game to the AI on rookie, you really need to pay more attention to what you are doing.
As far as pitching more strikes... the AI throws about 80% of pitches in the zone on rookie and yes some are dotted up but all are very very easy to hit. They still need to pitch as pitchers. So they throw some out of the zone sometimes, miss their mark and groove plenty. Amazing what people complain about

Had a 20 pitch at bat playing CPU conquest mode on Veteran....
