RIP your PS4 is dying
lol I could buy that if it affected my other games and others weren't experiencing the same issue as well

I play on PS4 Pro with the balanced setting and it was buttery smooth until the past 1.5 and 1.6 update. It's almost like playing on the Sharper setting now at times.
This stuttering/drop in frames happens randomly for 10-30 seconds when pitching and hitting for me. Does not matter if runners are on base etc. It is so distracting and it appears others are experiencing this. I have an OLEDE8 and Samsung Q90R and this does not happen with other games.
I do not want to go to the faster setting with the downgrade in graphics as clearly something is occuring here.
Rebuilt the database, deleted old games, files etc, still the same.
Any idea how to fix this? Others experiencing this on here?
This is a little off topic, I’ve wondered if playing at 1440p (balanced) causes some unwanted input lag because the PS4 pro cannot natively produces this resolution. I think it can do 1080p and 2160p but not 1440p. I think it just upscales from 1080p, which might create extra lag.

Yeah no idea. This whole thing is an enigma. When it's smooth, it's great, but when its laggy, it's irritating.
Lately it's playing for me like it's on sharper mode with random hitches when pitching that last for 10-20 seconds and then when batting, the opposing pitcher lags when throwing to me, which messes up timing while batting.

If it’s only happening during online play, it could also be a connectivity issue. So much goes into this to make everything go smoothly it’s crazy.

I exclusively play offline only. If it were online, I'd welcome it because I would just disconnect and the issue would be gone and inky play offline.
It's happening offline, unfortunately.

Faster setting is how you fix it.

You may be right. Just sucks that it was fine before these patches.
Shouldn't have to downgrade graphics that big for the smooth gameplay that already existed, but it's either put up with the stuttering or go to faster setting it appears.

I can't see how the PS4 and PS4 Pro GPUs would be unable to output a 1440p resolution. The native resolution in a game can be whatever the devs want, no? Perhaps they are using the checkerboard upscaling technique to hit 1440p and that's adding lag? Who knows, but I can't think of any reason the hardware itself couldn't output any native resolution. Obviously the higher the resolution the more difficult the frame rate, etc. It looks to me like the issue here is a combination of the Pro simply not being quite powerful enough to sustain 1440p and the game still being poorly optimized in some areas.
As I'm sure you guys do, I've hoped each year that the "balanced" and "4k (a pipe dream)" settings will become better but sadly I am usually disappointed. I do think the modes have improved over the years but I guess they're running into the limits of the console at this stage.
I've been trying the balanced mode here and there, but like the OP, I do run into issues with it. Despite my best efforts, I always end up back with the "faster" setting. It's still a great looking game even on that setting, but man I can't wait to use the PS5 to play this game in 4k/60!

It starts talking about the PS4 pro a couple paragraphs down. If it upscales, who knows what that does to input lag. I’ve been playing on sharper because apparently my tv handles 4k better than 1080p. That’s all I’ve done on this iteration of the game, and as far as appearance goes, it seems to run relatively smoothly. I wish I could know definitively though how much my input lag is.

How full is your hard drive? Is it the original or a replacement? If it’s a replacement, do you know which mode it is?
