Do you think Aramis Ramirez is a Hall of Famer? Compare his stats to Scott Rollen. I'm not saying Aramis is a Hall of Famer. Just that maybe Rollen doesn't deserve it.
The MLB Hall of Fame is a sham. The guy with the most hits isn't in and the guy with the most home runs isn't in. Nuff said.....
I do think Aramis Ramirez is a borderline hall of famer tbh like Rolen, if he only played against the Cardinals his entire career he would have been the greatest hitter of all time
But also gotta look at the defensive stats to, not just offense. It's easy to dismiss defense because it doesn't look as good on a stat page as offense.
I loved Aramis and thought Rollen was a beast. Yesterday I was watching a podcast and they put up Ramirez, Rollen and Ron Santos career numbers.
Ramirez has half the WAR as Rollen and Santo, but his offensive numbers are just as good if not better.
Thought I'd get your opinion.

It's because his defense gave him negative war, I feel like if he was a dh (obv there wasn't one in NL back then), he would have had a much better case.

I think WAR should be on a battlefield. Rolen is a joke. Schmidt, Mathews, Brett, Chipper, Boggs....at least they did something significant. Ozzie and Aparicio are in the Hall for defense. A 3B should hit at least 400 HR and have 1500+ RBI's. Look at the last 5 years of his career where he only played over 100 games once. I'm good with you being a Homer but you can't talk me into thinking Rolen is a HOFer.

Aramis … for real? One-dimensional (hitting stats are very good), but imo not a HOFer .
If you want to look away from his awful defense and totally black that out, then you should compare him to Edgar.Edgar has a career OPS of .933 … Aramis is .100 lower at .833… To me: Case closed. Edgar: HOF, Aramis: Good player, not HOFer
Rolen‘s OPS is .855, but he was a ballplayer with a glove (and a 70 WAR, that is not nothing). To me: Rolen is debatable but deserving HOFer (but no Whitacker still sucks)

Cold numbers would suggest they were the same, Rolen’s WAR and Gold glove awards are the diference maker between the two.

I freely admit I’m a Rolen mark and I will say he’s a fringe HOFer at best. But the dude was one of the best defensive 3Bs in the game for 17 years. And a solid hitter to boot. You are absolutely right about his last 5 years. I am also not a massive WAR fan but it does have it merits. I won’t disagree that the Hall has some major flaws. Tim Raines? Really?
Now here is one to discuss. Jim Edmonds also had 8 gold gloves. He had 396 Home Runs to Rolen’s 316. He had a higher OBP, OPS and OPS+ which apparently means something to advanced stats nerds. So why was he off the ballot so quickly? I definitely agree there are weird discrepancies.
Also, I’m gonna start using that line. WAR should be on a battlefield haha, well said friend.

I agree regarding Jim Edmonds. He was the backbone of the Angels before they traded him and was solid in St. Louis too.
