I like that idea too. Aside from a handful of Events and BR, bronze and silver cards are useless even on Day 1. Most people have a mix of golds and low diamonds almost immediately (aside from maybe some bullpen depth). Anything to keep cards usable longer into the game cycle would be cool.
Another good solution would be for SDS to cool it when the 99s. I think 99s should be limited to HoFers (and obvious future HoFers), but the vast majority of guys who have 99s never earned them.
Perhaps they could stop issuing the HR derby cards too, or at least stop with the 125 power on them.

Definitely a great idea! I'd be down for a mode like this over any other.
-
A separate RS Mode called 80
Entire line up cannot exceed 80
Variety would be super
-
They did attempt it somewhat in coop and I think it’s fine. A mode like what your saying is literally what events should be and ppl can’t find a way around it like have 5 commons on the bench which is only used once in three inning games

I think there is a fine line, and they went to far on the YOU GET A 99 train, but your way is to far to the other side. They've tried limiting 99's in the past, and it killed whatever little creativity MLBTS players have in creating lineups
Non-Hofers have had 99 worthy seasons to base cards off of. 2004 Jim Edmonds for example, (biased example, but still a correct one).

I’m not suggesting SDS eliminate 99’s entirely, or even reduce them (although I’d be fine with that).
There is clearly a demand for god squads in ranked and that is fine.
I don’t think it would need to eliminate BR, but ideally could be a mode in itself. Sounds like some of you agree.
-
I think they could make it more challenging to acquire the 99s, i started in September and I was able to complete all the collections relatively quickly, first time ever playing diamond dynasty and I have played it constantly since then, but it seems like for the people that have been grinding it out since April that less rewarding.
-
They don't need to have multiple 99s of the same player.
Having a 99 OVR player, new player to boot, as a reward for the LS Collection was great.
Releasing a better version, although still a 99, later in the year that could be had for less than what someone may have 'paid' for that first one was a joke.
Finest shouldn't be 99s either. Yes, they have to make them that because they're released late in the game when other 99s have been released, but if they cut down on the earlier 99s they wouldn't have to make late arriving cards 99s.
I also think they should get rid of the 125 ratings and go back to when a Diamond was a 90 and above , golds were 80-89, etc.
Future Stars shouldnt hit 99s either.

I agree that things started getting a bit wonky with the 125 attributes. I think that was around 2018 with the dreaded “immortal” cards…

IMO, BR plays the best online because not every player in the lineup is a 99. There are always lots of interesting silver, bronze and gold cards every year as well, but, outside of the odd event, there is no practical way of using them deeper in the game cycle.
Go with me here for a second: imagine a RS mode which allowed you to assemble a team of any cards you’ve collected, but limited to the BR draft numbers, ie X diamond, Y gold, Z silver, etc.
I bet if you did that, even without changing the gameplay at ALL, online play would be WAY better.
Just a random thought.
While I agree with this, that would basically eliminate the need for BR. Personally, if it went to your plan, I would be ok with losing BR and events completely.
They could then put some actual effort into RTTS and from what I hear franchise.
You admit that you don’t play online much, then you say you’d be ok with them eliminating 2/3 of the featured online gameplay modes??? I think a lot of people prefer Events and BR over Ranked.
If they wanted to make a separate type of 9 inning Ranked Seasons with limitations than that might be a cool idea for some people, but that doesn’t mean you eliminate other modes. Do you know how many cards are released through Events and BR throughout the year? Where would you be releasing all those cards?

I simply said I would be ok with it. I know they won't actually do it but ranked is significantly broken in my personal experience only and if they dumped that but kept BR and events I would be equally ok with that too.
They also could probably release less content too. Do we really need 3 versions of 99 Aaron Judge, and many others? I keep reading posts where people complain that high level golds, low level diamonds and most high contact hitters have no value after May, so perhaps they could find another way.
I am not claiming my way is the best way, or even a good way, but just a thought.

I would love that. One of the reasons I love BR is because most of the games I end up playing are "normal". Not every hit is a HR. People hit singles, doubles and triples. You know... normal. I would love to have that extended to 9 innings.
Have two options - RS Extreme and RS Normal.
-
This exactly is my point. Not that there aren’t still crazy sweaty BR games where nobody can hit and it goes multiple extra innings until one player makes a mistake, but those are generally not the norm.

I posted this a while back. Why not set a point total for a team. Sure you can have a couple of 99 rating guys but if you only get, say, 750 rating points for the lineup that would cause you to have a couple of 60-70 point guys also. Would seem to balance the lineup in a more realistic way.

The OVR cap should be enough to make this work BUT there will always be the guys with a bench and pen full of commons.
