pause freeze leads to forfeit of game

So I was winning 1-0 in an event game going into the the top of the third inning, I was the away team. Dude brought in a relief pitcher bc he had pinch hit for his pitcher the inning prior. He brings in his pitcher, I bring in a pinch hitter, he pauses the game. From the moment he pauses the timer froze with 2 minutes 52 seconds. A few minutes go by and a message appears on the screen, ‘Your game has been forfeited’. What gives? I get sent back to the post-game screen with a big fat LOSS. when I was the one winning. Why did this happen?

Were you spamming the x button? If so he probably sent you the option to forfeit and you probably hit it without knowing.
