I’m just curious. Does difficulty impact ANYTHING at all in this game? I know in ranked, it determines pci size and pitch speeds.

What about in vs cpu modes? I haven’t been playing 22 long, but it seems even less relevant than last year.

    Thoughts?

It affects the same things in CPU games. Not sure if it is to the same extent but it does make a difference.

Rookie to veteran is noticeable, takes me several innings to get my timing back(which is why i hate moments on rookie) going from veteran(especially high 90s guys)to rookie is even worse(again moments)( on them i could take a nap go out to dinner come back tomorrow and still be too early on fastballs)
veteran to all star and vice versa seems to be an easy adjustmemt.veteran to HoF is very noticeable

Pitch speed and PCI size are the main things

I guess my question was rhetorical. I’m just surprised that cpu pitchers are so stingy on low difficulties. It has been trending in this direction for a few years, imo. When I first started playing the show, the lower difficulties offered more pitches to hit. It really only started to get stingy at all star and up.

At this point, it seems to me that the difficulty settings are largely irrelevant. Many of the vs cpu modes feel like showdown.

Yes the CPU nibbles at the strike zone even on rookie difficulty which is tedious and annoying. In real baseball the pitchers don’t pitch around every batter. In the show 22 it’s about 2 balls to every 1 strike thrown by the CPU which means a lot of time just waiting out a pitch to hit. On higher difficulties this would make sense but on lower levels it doesn’t translate well.

This doesn’t even include the CPU defense which is sure to include numerous diving stops, catches, double plays and robbed HRs. On the whole everything just feels very inconsistent. One game it’s HR derby and the next it’s abnormally difficult just to make solid contact. Kind of strange.

Agreed. Vastly inconsistent from game to game and mode to mode.
I get that it is a “simulation”, but my idea of fun is not being in a simulation of a two hit shutout.
