Homerun derby skipped

In RTTS, after being selected to participate in the homerun derby, and the video add-in describing that selection and all that's great with it, the gameplay simply skips over the days with the homerun derby and all-star game to the next regular season game. What am I missing?

You probably hit "play next game" instead of "play next appearance"!

Good thought, but nope. Play next appearance starts the video. When the video ends, the calendar advances quickly to post-All-star game days
