The "Best" are not always the Best for everyone and you just have to try enough players to see who works for you. I just started in a League and my team is doing well hitting wise. Currently this is my starting lineup.
C 96 Mauer
1B 99 Papi
2B 94 Morgan
3B 99 Brett
SS 96 Bogaerts (4 HR in 2 games)
LF 97 Soto
CF 96 Springer
RF 97 Judge
DH 97 AlvarezVery left handed so I'm looking at getting Napoli as Sam has mentioned above.
I prefer a team of HOF Legends but since most of them are not out yet, I'm using who works well for me.

2B Swanson
3B De La Cruz
LF Soriano
1B Stargell
SS N. Marte
RF Harper
C Piazza
CF-Y. Cespedes -

This is what I like about these forums, finding others like me haha. I'll be posting each position through the next few days to get away from the constant complaining on these boards. Hope you'll jump in even though you already shared your lists.
Also, Buxton doesn't get enough love presumably because of the low contact. But I absolutely mash with him and once he's on the bases, it's a wrap. I got the 10 SBs with him alone other than one by Jackie (had I known Jackie counted it would have happened sooner).
I agree about Buxton.
Okay - let's talk catchers. As @TEXAS10PT_PSN said, there are a lot preferences to take into account. For example, Johnny Bench is a great card, but I don't hit well with him, so I don't use him. As I said earlier, my favorite catcher cards this year are the Piazza and Mauer cards. I really like the 88 Piazza but I have him at P5, and am working on the 96 Piazza now. (My favorite REAL catchers are Carlton Fisk and I-Rod).
Top 5. Well, lets start with OVR. The top OVR cards are:
98 Diego Cartaya
97 Alejandro Kirk
97 Willson Contreras
97 Mike Napoli
There are three 96 OVR catchers. Gary Carter, Joe Mauer, and Mike Piazza. In my opinion, the first thing you want in a catcher is fielding and blocking.
Top 5 fielders
94 Roberto Perez
76 Jacob Stallings
90 Sean Murphy
76 Max Stassi
72 Austin HedgesTop 5 blockers
94 Roberto Perez
78 Manny Pina
90 J.T. Realmuto
90 Carson KellyThe next thing (in my opinion) arm strength and accuracy
Top 5 ARM
90 J.T. Realmuto
90 Sean Murphy
95 Korey Lee
87 Jorge Alfaro (tied with his 83 card)
95 Shea LangeliersTop 5 Accuracy
94 Roberto Perez
95 Korey Lee
95 Henry Davis
95 Shea Langeliers
93 Ivan RodriguezThe Last thing is hitting. I'll average the power and contact for both L and R. Some guys like to have a switch hitting catcher and there aren't that many. In my mind, you have to look at their opposite hand attributes to see if they are higher than someone who isn't a switch hitter, because if they aren't, what's the point?
Top 5 Contact (averaged L and R)
97 Mike Napoli (123.5, 122, 125)
95 Joe Mauer (109, 103, 115)
97 Alejandro Kirk (106, 95, 117)
96 Mike Piazza (105.5, 108, 103)
98 Diego Cartaya (103, 104, 102)Top 5 Power (averaged L and R)
89 Mitch Garver (119.5, 125, 114)
98 Diego Cartaya (109, 112, 106)
96 Mike Piazza (108, 115, 101)
86 Salvador Perez (107, 125, 89)
97 Willson Contreras (103.5, 125, 82)There you have it. These aren't biased results. I sorted the SDS database by each category, so these are just numbers.

Biggio's 2B card last year was phenomenal. I'd love to see him have another card like that one.

Yeah I'm hoping Biggio has Catcher as a secondary. He could definitely jump up this list. Same with Jimmie Foxx when he gets his high diamond. I also think we still have Pudge, Mauer and Piazza cards that will be better than these versions. I wonder if we get a solid Grandal, Salvy, Molina or Realmuto card.
Lastly, don't count out a high diamond for Adley or Posada. And of course, Bench. It's fun to to think of all the cards coming.
@Blind_Bleeder I was surprised to see Garver so high on the power list. I did enjoy his card for a few days. Thanks for putting that together.

Don't leave out Schwarber either. As a secondary catcher, he's had some good cards too.

Totally, if he gets one that's another great option. Maybe even a 99 Carter. Last year I never used him but his 96 this year is miles better than last year.
