Someone PLEASE explain this to me (Showdown HELP!)

First of all, this mode is starting to annoy me with the OBVIOUS cheating for the CPU. It's like Madden with Squad Battles. The CPU gets so much help....
But what's up with "BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME" happening? One time I failed THREE TIMES and was still able to play. This past time I failed for the FIRST TIME on the FIFTH Moment and failed completely??
Is it meant to be random like this? Or is there something I keep missing?
Also, do the innings I play with these players give me anything towards innings played for each of these teams affinity?

You could fail every blue mission and keep going, but failing a red boss will end the run.
No, you don’t earn team affinity during showdown.

Blue little missions if you fail its ok you just wont get runs added to that 0-15 deficit. You fail the big red boss missio. Its automatically game over and you have to pay 1000 again to play.
No none of these stats you get goes towards anything so no affinity no programs nada.

So what's the point? If you don't win, or at least win enough battles; you're just wasting stubs... and time....
That’s the point though. If you win, you make your stubs back and more, plus a couple packs and team affinity vouchers.
That’s why you want to win.
