How important is vision on batting?
-
I usually overlook this attribute over contact and power. But I noticed my 2 best hitters whom rarely get struck out are Albert Pujols and my CAP. Both of them having 100+ vision while my other other guys on my team with high power & contact but low vision like Trout, Acuna, etc I get struck out with them more often.
I always thought if it’s visuals I can see it but it’s really starting to make me wonder cause I be taking some very stupid pitches with them whom I normally wouldn’t take it with Pujols or my CAP. Idk if it’s just a mind thing so I might be over looking this as well lol

Vision is what determines the size of your outer PCI. I personally don’t use an outer PCI so, it’s not a stat I’m concerned with, but that’s just me.

I believe they have said in streams that vision also has an effect on timing windows. Not sure if they have ever explained exactly how but I think it definitely has an impact on timing.

I’m a believer that vision is important. To me I seem to recognize pitches in/out of the zone better and more stuff seems to “hang” with high vision guys. However, there are always lower vision guys that I really like. For example one of my favorite cards last year was TN Grandal and it had pretty low vision.

It’s a forgiveness stat to some degree. It will help you foul balls outside the inner PCI. Usually contact and vision go hand in hand but sometimes guys like Trout who have incredible batting averages strike out more than guys with the same average.
It’s also probably like 20-30% of everything that goes into directional hitting if you use that instead of zone. Some pitches in certain spots are borderline impossible to hit and lower vision makes it even worse.

Vision affects the timing window on the swing. Higher number means bigger green zone in my experience.
