Here’s a good baserunning mistake

I’m doing the Amir Garret moments.
Anthony Rendon walks to lead off the inning. Lindor pops out. Then, with one away, Bregman pops one foul off to the first base side. Freddy Freeman reaches into the stands and makes the catch.
Meanwhile, Rendon is just about at second base (?!) and has to turn around and head back towards first. Of course he is doubled off to end the inning.
My base running options are “auto” and “assist”, and obviously I have assist selected. Why does Anthony Rendon not tag up at the bag like every kid learns? Where is he going on a foul pop?

I feel you're pain, I have had runners not run at all on a ball hit into the gap, and sometimes Gary Sanchez just decides hes going to go for 3 on a groundball single.

Or when you have them go to 2nd on a clear double but they somehow want 3rd and they have 43 speed and I quit hitting the button after halfway to 2nd.got to love these players with smart AI brains lol

Yeah, those botched doubles so often come when you’re down a run late against a tough pitcher. You finally get a knock into the gap and then your runner refuses to stop at second.
I feel like those often happen due to lag, and/or me holding “advance all” too long.
The taking off from first with less than two out on a foul pop up is just a mistake in the programming. Baseball fundamentals!

I’ve seen this before. I think it registers the ball as “going out of play”, so the runner tries to advance, since it doesn’t matter anyway. Since, as you said, he reached into the stands to catch it, the ball actually would’ve been out of play.
