2018 vs 2022

#1 - 17 before the "just late" patch
#2 - 16 minus the bunt garbage50 feet of [censored]
#3 - 21's RNG that rewards chased / very late hits & nerfed outcomes on solid contact
#4 - 20's RNG that rewards chased / very late hits (+ very early bombs low & away)
#5 - 22's RNG that rewards chased / very late hits & really nerfed outcomes on solid contact
#6 - 18's slow pitch softball where only power hitters mattered. At least it wasn't a lineout fest50 more feet of [censored]
#7 - 19's lineout fest
Great order listed here. Well Done. I might change 4 & 5 but other than that I agree with your list and logic.

There have been 3 years I have found myself hating online play since I started DD in 16. 18 was horrible, the pitch speed was so slow that it made hitting feel super easy but the outcome was random. So many perfectly timed squared up balls that were routine flyouts. 20 & 21 were also really bad. I thought 17 was the best. It was the year I fell in love with online play and felt like the closest version we've had where we were rewarded accurately with out actual input. The beginning of 19, for about a month or so, is a close 2nd. Unfortunately, they did their normal thing and started tweeking with stuff and screwed it up to where it ended very bad. This year, hitting has seemed okay for me so far but pitching is back to the default down the middle often which I hate. I find myself starting to come back to online play a little.

No way; 19 is ahead of 20, 21 and 22. Yes it was a lineout fest, but you could actually hit the ball and pitch too.
'20 pitches were hung like Ron Jeremy
'21 was outlier mess with FS Cabrera and AS DeGrom 80% of matchups
'22 has a bit of everything. -

'22 has a bit of everything.I'm not looking forward to when they start releasing pitchers with outlier. Last year by August every pitcher you faced online had outlier.
Edit. And if they didn't have outlier they had crazy junk pitches like that 99 king Felix card

I didn't play DD in 2018. Was the gameplay in 2018 worse than 2022, or was it just the immortal programs I keep reading about? To the vets: Where would you rank this years game?
mate 2018 was the worst game for sure - 2017 was amazing, and 2020 was a nice update, 2021 a bit copy paste, this year copy paste
my theory is that SDS is spending so much time making this game for all platforms, all they do is code the game for systems, with 0 attention for actual gameplay

'22 has a bit of everything.Yeah you could hit the ball...right into a glove lol. Pitching was easier because you guessed it...hard hit balls went right into a glove anyway. In 21, hitting felt a tick more rewarding than in 20 or this year but not by much. Last year and this year I'm still able to dot pitches with analog so I can't comment on pinpoint. But this year it seems like the only way to get a hit is through perfect input, early swings with the pci barely touching the ball, or very late swings on pitches jammed way inside. A 12+ pci that's just barely late of perfect will almost always be a routine fly out regardless if the timing is still "good". But I'll take this year's random hitting results over 19's almost guaranteed lineouts/fly outs even if pitching was better

17 was great for content but I think a lot of people like it for nostalgia reasons. You could get jammed on an inside fastball and hit a oppo no-doubter. Not to mention the horrible fielding animations and baserunning cheese.
19 started great, then everything was a lineout, or warning track out. Plus every game was vs Kluber to start, Newhouser to close or vise versa.
21 is the best DD in my opinion. I didn’t really care about the outlier stuff. I wish it wasn’t just a sinker fest, but it wasn’t bad enough for me to not consider it the best DD.
21 had way less hung pitches and you could actually strike people out. I think if they patch 22 to have less foul offs and actually be able to strike people out, it has potential to be the best.

Hitting outcomes are way too random and inconsistent this year and last year to ever be better than 16/17. Those jammed hits and bombs from 17 came about after the "just late be great" patch that started the huge downfall we're seeing today

Bottom line is that every year MLBTS has it pro's & con's with game play, missions, rewards, content, modes, etc, etc. With each year it may have more pro's than con's or have more con's than pro's. Many will have their own opinions with which year was best & why.
SDS tweaks stuff, make changes, brings out new ideas & concepts every year trying to get it right to please the majority. But every year they swing & miss with most. So we really can NOT blame SDS because too many of us have our own opinions, thoughts, ideas & suggestions with what this game should be like. maybe this forum does more harm then good.
