Pitches on the black…
-
Can we talk about how often pitches on the black aren’t called a strike? I pride myself in being very good at painting the corners in online rated but it feels like maybe 2 or 3 out of 10 are actually called a strike. I’m not asking for 100% accuracy because that isn’t realistic but it would be nice to be rewarded for perfect pitch locations especially when over half the ball is in the strike zone (especially if it’s a perfect pitch).

Rule states if any piece of the ball is touching the strike zone it is a strike. Doesnt matter how much. Same as a fair/foul ball. If any of the ball touches chalk its fair. But the game has always been bad on this in regards to strike zone, yet they have an option called "perfect" for strike zone. Is what it is I guess. It has gotten better last couple games though.

I hear you. I know they are basically trying to make it “realistic” since regular umpires do miss those calls regularly but it’s annoying to say the least.

It used to call strikes and balls clearly wrong to add umpire “realism”, not it is the same , and never calls a strike if less than half is outside the zone ( which is dumb bc that’s not the rule)

Could you imagine the outcry if it was realistic? The games i watch usually have at least 10 that arent touching the box called, and that brewers vs phils game with angel hernandez had over 20 with 8 of them strike 3s.

I've had plenty of strikes called against me where at most 1/3 of the ball was in the strike zone. I wish I could say it was the complete opposite for when I pitch, but I can never find the corners. So who knows for sure. Lol

Yeah that game was the absolute worst. Only good thing that came out of it was it was a nationally televised game and it got the recognition it deserved. Hopefully umps saw that and try to be better to avoid that type of backlash and media attention.
