I would love if I all I feel I'm earning is packs, because currently I don't feel like I'm earning packs at all
I opened like 40 standards 3 biah and 1 headliner tonight after saving packs for a couple days. Got maybe 4 golds, all qs. It can feel like a kick in the bag somtimes because now I have to start over on somthing. Start a new mini season, or do another conquest, or play br, or events idk which one is next but motivation just isn't there.
Last year at this time that number would be doubled, they aren’t rewarding us anywhere near the way they were last year, sadly this is becoming more and more like the 2k model. Just waiting for the theme missions e.g. get 15,000 xp towards another awful program for using this sig series card we released in the chase set. What a disappointment this year’s game has been.

We are missing all those Team Affinity and Ballin packs from the last couple years lol. When they change something they really go hard the other way.
Yeah I guess man. Whatever it is, this year's game just isn't holding my interest like last years game did.
My gaming pattern over the last several years is that I’ll play MLB:TS exclusively from launch until about January or February and then I’ll sneak in a different game before the new MLB comes out. Well, MLB22 hasn’t even been out for 3 weeks and I’m already looking around for different games to play this weekend…
Not sure if the game has just gotten stale after all these years, or if I’m sick of the Mini Season glitches, or if I’m tired of the gameplay, or if I’m put off by the stingy packs and market manipulation (or a combo of all these things), but I don’t think I’ll be playing MLB nearly as much this year as I have in the past. Hopefully something changes because I want to love this game the way I used to.
I'm not quite that far, (mostly because I don't really play other games all that much in the first place), but I think there aren't enough packs to keep me interested and/or the program is just so long and I finished it so fast without using RTTS, that it just seems like forever until another one comes
I don’t even want to grind for this program, it’s awful.
-
99s aren't coming til near end of year. Keep grinding. It'll pay off
-
I would agree with everything said.
And man I would really agree with pack odds feeling poor this year. Opened around 230 packs so far, ballin and headliners included, and have pulled 2 diamonds (Ramirez, Muncy)
I mean I understand odds and everything but the desire to grind is awful low right now.
-
I’d argue there are just as many (if not more) packs available for actively playing the game (mystery map gives 5 this year vs 3 last, mini seasons gives a ton, more frequent events, etc), but they definitely removed the passive packs (ie affinity). I think it was the right move by SDS. Too many packs led to too high early season stub counts and messed up the markets really early.
-
I think it really depends on how many "player programs" and featured programs they do. more mystery map, packs this year, the hidden conquest packs seem roughly the same. There has been 4 player programs instead if 2 at this point last year. Yes, team affinity packs and such are missing, but if they do one of those side programs every week, and say 20 featured programs over 11 inning programs, it could make up for a lot of the gap. I think you are probably earning more packs than you think too. While still not at many as last year obviously. You are probably opening 2-3 at a time more often, just not 10-15 packs at once. As long as the remaining featured programs have a smoother transition to the next one it should be fine

First post in a thread about lack of packs..."all you do is earn packs"... classic

Agreed. Except when I'm done with dd I'll switch to rtts or franchise. It's usually not until fall... I made my rtts build last night.
Royce Wagner a 5'10" Alaskan second baseman. Gritty ball player with a great glove and great speed, we'll see if his bat come around as he develops.
Or
Justin Wells a 6'6" RF from Florida. This guy is all power. He fields a decent RF but his speed and strikeouts will be an issue.
Don't know which one I will play first.

It definitely has an unrewarding feel, but think about how many complaints there were last year about people getting all of the good cards way too soon and easily making it feel like you can’t compete? It’s tough to please everyone.
I definitely haven’t played nearly as much RS this year so far as years past but like a high school dance I am a big fan of the slow grind. It forces you to try different lineups/rotations and doesn’t put stacks of 99’s at everyone’s disposal.
With that being said, it’s also VERY early. They’ll start pouring in and before we know it we’ll have tons of choices of mid to high diamonds

There only being one short program and then after that your xp doesn't count towards anything is a problem. Some people can chirp in all they want "you don't have to be rewarded for playing a game", but that's BS. Having to wait 14 days for your xp (the main gameplay reward) to matter again is bollocks.
The other problem I see is that online gameplay Is terrible and it's actively acting as a deterrent for many.
Both of these issues can be fixed and I'm not willing to debate any trolls on my OPIONIONS!

Not just affinity pack. Don't forget that each division last year gave you like 7 biah packs, around what 40 affinity packs, and several others.
Packs aren't what people are missing. People are missing the fact that you had an inning program, an affinity program, player programs, daily program, all active at the same time. It was loads of fun. The packs were nice too lol
I understand it was dumb that after ta3 we all had a 99 ovr team, but they could have kept the same formula just lowered the overalls. Fotf cards are higher overall then the ta1 cards were last year.
Ta1 should be gold players, ta 2 should be 88s, ta3 93, ta4 97+.
It was never supposed to be a way to field a top notch team imo. They were just fun cards to have when it came to doing division and team missions

I remember a time when playing a game was its own reward.
It was yesterday, because the main gameplay reward is the feeling of achievement and that it was time well spent - completely intrinsic rewards.
XP is extrinsic and is a secondary reward.
Just the opinions of somebody who is old school.

Yeah bud I remember those days as well, but those days are gone aren't they? It wasn't the gamers who changed the culture.

This is just my second year with DD. I am an old guy and this is the first ultimate team thing I have ever done. Never thought I would like it and I loved it last year. I don't have to be rewarded to play the things I like, but I do feel that is somewhat what the ultimate team model is. I haven't quite been able to pinpoint what it is, but this year is definitely not capturing my attention like last year. I think there has definitely been a significant drop off in packs from last year and I didn't even know what TA was until almost the summer last year. I also felt like there were way too many moments last year, but the one single moment thing I liked last year was daily moments. It was just cool to see what the daily was and work towards the goals. I thought it was a perfect system once you had a three day window to complete things. I think I have done a total of two dailies this year.
I am also struggling with the PXP push this year. I feel like this is supposed to be my ultimate team, but I find myself stuck fielding lineups of Nats, Astros, Cover players, etc. I know there were missions in the programs last year, but I don't feel like I was locked into specific players, teams, rosters for near as long as PXP is requiring. I kind of feel like the only way I can play with "my team" is to play all day long. If I play at the same rate I did a year ago, that time has to be spent on PXP type stuff.

i also remember a time when playing a game that you bought wasn't completely broken from Day 1
when a major mode within a game just WORKED the way it should be
just an opinion from an old school gamer too

I don’t know about you… but every three games I play, I get five packs. Those who know… know.

Haha yeah pxp over stats missions is a big L. I like having to field a different team from time to time, but somthing about pxp just isn't as fun as "hit 2 HRs with so and so". It does seem to take awhile longer as well. I think it's because pxp isn't really a stat, maybe if there was an in game pxp tracker it would feel better.
I agree with what you said about daily missions. Last year it was always exciting for me to log in a see what the new mission was; the community seemed to enjoy the dailies as well, it always gave us somthing to chat about.
The main difference between this year and last is the rewards. Wether that be packs, players, or stubs, it's all down. Perhaps we were spoiled last year, but currently the time/stub seems very very low

Yeah we all get it buddy. We've all played that map 50 times.
40 minutes for a chance at a decent pull. 98% of the time it's 40 minutes for maybe a 5 pack that will earn you 1000 stubs.
