Has anyone been doing that this year? I think it could make sense, especially if you have both lefty and righty SPs, and/or you have one or two pitchers much better than the others. I just got Kluber to go with Newhouser at the top of my rotation, so I was thinking I could use an opener and then depending on my opponent's skill and lineup, I can choose either Kluber or Newhouser or if I think I'm significantly better or worse than my opponent I can go to one of my back end SPs and save my good guys for a tighter game.

I did once I got Newhouser and Kluber, it allowed me to see the person lineup and decide which one of those two would be best.
I stopped doing it once I got close to WS, but it was effective,

I guess it’s ok, but for some reason I have a loss of respect for this strategy. Feels unhonorable for lack of a better word

I agree completely. But everyone will eventually figure it out and start doing it. So they either fix it, or it’s going to be something that’s exploited.

For the record, I love being able to pick my starters. But it don’t like that we are able to use them in the bullpen. I’ve done it myself and it’s won me games. I even brought Hal Newhouser to close out a close game. Didn’t feel right, but I knew he was rested and my best option.

With being able to use your starters out the pen, it really has sort of killed my desire to worry about my bullpen as much.

If you couldn’t use a starter out of the pen, it would be so much more important investing in a pen.

I honesty think they patch it. Surprised they haven’t.

I don’t think they will patch it honestly.. with the use of openers becoming more popular in real life. And the “best arm available” mentality of playoff runs. I think it makes sense that you can use an opener/bring starters out of the pen.

I disagree, part of the benefit of MLB team using an opener is that you make it harder for them to stack the lineup for a platoon advantage. Now, most managers haven't taken it that far quite yet but I have seen something like that a few times and it's only a matter of time before someone does it regularly like the Rays started using an openier and then everyone followed.

They just need to make stamina loss more severe if a starter comes out of the pen. Like if you bring a starter in, they automatically lose 25% of their stamina. They will still be able to throw 5-7 innings because their stamina is much higher rating wise.

I agree, but people are resistant to change, especially for the "purists".

There are a lot of people on here that demand everyone play the same way, irregardless there is no (MLB/MiLB) rules against using pitchers in this manner. They don't want people to adjust to their style and become better. The "elites" of this forum must keep "Little Billy" from improving at all costs!

Well irl they submit lineups 8 hours before the game so it's not.
