Question for flippers, investers, or stub makers.

Let's see how I can word this.
We all know, or should now by now, that certain, if not most, Legend and FB cards that are released at the beginning of the year and are program specific will carry a premium later.
But what about ones like the Gold Prospects you got from the USA Conquest map?
During the first few months these went for close to 10-12K.
Only when they (SDS) allowed you to pick all 5, instead of one, per Division conquer; did they start to drop.
They still maintained about a 5-7K value until SDS released the packs in some Conquest Maps.
Ok, so my question is this: if they do something like this again; do you just sell off what you get, even if they're needed for a small collection, and just wait until they're QS value to actually collect them?
Same could be asked for the Legend 42 players as they were at a premium for awhile because they were tied to getting 99 42 Series Jackie Robinson.
I know some of you probably flipped these cards until you made enough to warrant locking one in at a time.
I know everyone will have a different view on this.
Just curious to hear/read everyone's take on what cards you lock in right away.

Ok, so I typically in the beginning sell off what I get, I'm focused on building up that stub bank because I need stubs to make stubs, then I start knocking out the live series, and from there I can begin to use stubs to hoard cards

See, that's what I was thinking. Selling off EVERYTHING that isn't connected to completing the LS Collection.
But then I think about how I may possibly be waiting on a card, that by the time I get it, (42 Series Jackie for example) there are already better options out there.
Plus, once the LS Collection is completed those Show packs you get are pretty well just fillers.
But I understand what you're saying and it's a problem that is my problem and nobody else's.
On a side note, any LS card you get after completing the collection, can be sold for stubs. So there is that aspect.
I just have to decide if I want to play with the 'shiny new toy' right away or wait and get it when there are better options available for free.

The big question I think is....are you looking to get the best possible team quickly for online play? Are you trying to collect every card or both? I didn't start playing till May last year and really didn't start understanding how to strategize and collect properly until June or July.
I also didn't know how to flip until even later, maybe August or September and I still ended up with every card (other than he who shall not be named....cough.....Alomar).
I think @eatyum_PSN has a sound strategy and we can anticipate when markets will drop for certain cards but that they will rebound at some point.
For instance. The Prospect cards in the US Map were 5 to a pack by the time I attempted the map. So I never had to buy and sell them or complete the Map more than once (I've grinded it a few times since for fun and stubs). The first time I did it, I got all 30. When those packs were released in conquests, the bottom fell out. We know this happens with flash sales, stub sales, or whenever something becomes available in abundance. I'm running through the Map again now and the Prospects are all around 8-12k again.
One strategy that helped me to collect everything was flipping on the app while watching baseball games or TV and not waiting to buy new rewards unless I knew they would soon drop considerably like bosses. I bought a few big cards every few days, while keeping enough stubs to make more the next day. As soon as a new program like BR or RS came out, I bought all the lower cards (I didn't play online back then and couldn't win them) as soon as possible before they became expensive.
The key to most of this for me was flipping. I have never come close to 12-0 or WS so I had to buy every big online reward and flipping through the app made this possible.

Honestly, my goal is to get the LS Collection done before most of the cards become obsolete.
I'm not worried about online play. After my experience this year with the cheaters and exploiters I've dealt with the past few weeks; I'm sticking to offline content.
If it's a cesspool now, less than 3 weeks before the new game drops, I cannot imagine how it will be at the beginning.
Plus, I have a feeling that the servers aren't going to be up to par for the first few months.

Agree on the 42 Jackie thing, show packs aren't fillers after Ls though. They are still vitally important to build up your inventory for exchanges.

That's what I meant. If you're lucky enough to complete the LS Collection ASAP any LS cards you get from any pack can be used for exchanges, held for possible upgrades, etc.
After everything falls to QS value; then it's, in my opinion, more of a pain opening them and selling off everything that can't be exchanged.
If course, this all depends on if I get any lucky pulls or how much flipping/investing in decide to attempt.
-
when I think of the time needed for conquest maps that get you packs vs the time to flip (esp in the beginning) then flipping is 100% the better time investment as you can easily make more flipping in the time it takes to get a 10K card to sell from conquest.
Boring, absolutely but a more efficient use of time compared to the alternative IMO.
In the beginning you can't buy and sell fast enough. You could literally work your fingers to the bones nonstop for a week+ because orders get filled so fast.
-
Really depends on what you want. I wanted the 42 Jackie so I got all the 42 series cards first but if your main goal is the LS collection the best option is to sell everything that doesn't go towards that collection. Bosses, Henchmen, any type of rewards.
For me I'm too lazy to sit there and flip so I just go for live series roster update investments myself -

I horde pre orders early, flip like a madman, slowly start working towards LS collections and invest when needed.

Prospects: play Conquest again. And again. Repeat ad nauseum.
42: keep the freebies given out as pre-orders, inning rewards, etc. wait until mid July (or whenever a collection comes out) and pick up the rest.

I recommend selling everything that isn’t a 90+ LS until you get all of them. I had Trout after about 10 days doing this and the collection competed by June.

It will be an interesting year. We won’t have. IE at the start of the year so low level FB and Legend cards should have an inflated value that will sink slightly into the season as IE comes online. Then we will get a small position update 2 weeks after live play begins. We won’t have an update with ratings changes till mid-late May at the earliest. The market will be different this year, so past will not be prologue. That being said, I’m grinding out every free pack I can get, locking in every card and only selling doubles. Patience at the plate and patience at the market…that will be my motto after I just go ahead and buy out 1 low to mid-priced division.

Im still new....what's IE? I like the idea behind this approach, especially since I know I'll be playing all year so patience has to be my motto. I finished all collections and ended with every card but it too me a while. This year, I'm starting on day 1 and will start flipping as quickly as possible.

IE stands for Inside Edge. It is a slight adjustment made to each card’s stats based on history in real life matchups and trends. Early in the year live series cards are more viable because the flat stats of fb and legend cards are static while a certain batter may be dominant against a specific pitcher in a specific park and during the right time of day. As the season progresses the static stats in fb and legend cards outshine this. With the season starting 2 weeks later we are getting the game during Spring Training so IE won’t come online until 2 weeks in. Still, if you score a 90+ player you will have struck gold, but the magic that makes an 85 player play like an 88 or 89 won’t be there until 2 weeks into the game cycle…and I don’t need a team to take online until a few weeks into the season anyway.

Sweet, thanks for explaining. Does this have anything to do with the number below the OVR in red or green? I knew a player's real life performance factored into their active rating and whether they went from gold to diamond etc. I never really knew if that played a part on the daily and what those negative or positive numbers represented.

If I'm not mistaken; if shows up as a cores arrow. If it's pointing up; that means the hitter/pitcher does good against their opponent.
If it's pointing down; it means the opposite.
If you go into the game, via your console, you can view the players IE ratings. It's under where you go to view the Roster Update.
