I think co-op will be great but they absolutely have to get rewards in asap or it will die

I disagree, it should definitely start out as a casual mode between friends. To add rewards requires them to figure out quitting issues and potentially matchup rigging, let alone determining actual demand for the mode (which I a, not sure is actually that big once the novelty wears off).

I agree they have a lot to figure out with the points you made I just worry If there’s nothing to play for them they won’t see what the true demand for the mode is. I think when they do add rewards it would have to be something like the BR program

Isn’t that the opposite. Without rewards we will see what the real demand for the mode is. Adding rewards will bring in tons of people who don’t like the mode, but just want rewards.

DD is about grinding to unlock cards or packs though… why spend hours on a mode when I’m not earning anything? Me and my buddy are both still very excited to play but agreed on ranking up our squads until there is a reward program available.

If the future of this once great franchise is to sacrifice intrinsic rewards for more extrinsic ones, then God help those of us who play for fun.

Everybody plays games, even DD games, for their own reasons. Intrinsic rewards are still a thing for some people.

Why do people spend 1000 hours a year playing every pitch of their franchise? Why do some keep batting and pitching difficulty on Legend even though they lose 70% of their games? Why do some refuse to skip cut scenes in RDR and GTA? Why does The Last of Us make even the most steel-hearted gamer shed a tear?

No rewards in any of those.

Some people just play for a challenge, or to enjoy a game, or to get better at it. Rewards are just an annoying pop up for those people.

That’s fine if you don’t care about dd or rewards there’s a play now mode for it. But in a game mode where I have to build a team yes if like some rewards for playing.

I don't want to rely on random people to help me get said rewards though. Co-op is a cool idea, but I don't think it should have rewards. You would either have to either force your friends to play the mode with you or play with randoms. That doesn't seem like a good way to hand out good cards. Also there isn't rewards in custom leagues with DD cards, what would be the differenerce if this did not have rewards? The people that wanted a mode like this just wanted to play with their friends, not to just have an extra mode with rewards

And presumably playing in the mode will still get you xp progress towards the inning program or whatever as well.

If they make it the same reward path as ranked seasons or br couldn’t you just play that solo and get the same rewards? People definitely want rewards for the extra mode. So you’re ok with playing BR with no rewards? Just play it because it’s fun. How about ranked seasons?what if they took away rewards completely and you had to Buy everything would you be ok with that?

Would I be ok with that? Hell to the yes. Grinding is a repetitive chore and a bore and not fun. As soon as a game stops being fun it gets switched off. You know what’s fun for me? Playing a well-fought game, win or lose. Reward or otherwise. Knowing that it was my actions and skills and knowledge and experience that got me there.

I know you weren’t asking me this stuff but while ‘People definitely want rewards for the extra mode’ might be your motivation, it’s not reflective of the entire MLB The Show player base.

Pac-Man, Minecraft, Tetris, Wii Sports… the best selling games in history… what rewards did those players get?

(Yes I am aware Wii Sports was bundled with every Wii but still…)

The only reason I brought up the custom leagues thing is because there is both a DD component and a like "play now" component, similar to custom leagues. It isn't a DD exclusive mode

You’re getting way off topic my guy. We are talking about a mode that is based off of rewards and unlocking new cards. So people who play that game mode are going to want to play games that give them a path to unlocking new cards or packs. Tetris is a much different game lol.

Based on the stream they are supposedly thinking about how they can tie rewards into it but nothing finalised. It might not even be for 22.

    Cheers mate 🙂

    Just played co-op:

    • It took over 10 minutes just for the servers to allow us to get a game.
    • We played one inning of this co-op before the servers booted us.

I have to say though: I can’t speak for @OreoRockstar_PSN, but that one inning was the most fun I’ve ever had playing MLBTS.

That’s awesome 🙂 What was it that made it more fun than ever? I’m not in the tech test so can’t experience it but I’d really like to know more about what made it good. From what I saw of the feature premiere the thing that jumped out the most was that because the CPU isn’t controlling 8 of the players, some routine plays aren’t going to be so routine anymore such as a double play ball hit to 1st or throwing to the cutoff.

Yeah, the defense was tough to control. It definitely needs work. What I liked the most: It felt like I was playing a pick-up game or like playing over-the-line in real life because I had someone else depending on me. It felt like a team effort rather than just being in my own head.

I played 1 co op game and it was actually fun. We won 1-0 on my hr with Vlad Jr. It played relatively well tho it took 20 attempts to get into a game.
