Not sure if this is intended, but it is a bit of a nuisance. It'd be nice if i could just set it once and it'd be the same for every batter.

It's by design. Says in the in-game strategy guide (in-game pause > Settings > Controls/Guide > Hitting > Page 2) that it's supposed to last for the current AB.

You should have the option to fix it permanently for all your hitters in options though (ie change the default from center to somewhere else).

100% agree. It is very annoying having to redo it every single new batter
