Can you use a pitcher who is starting as the DH?
Just thinking about someone like Ohtani. Can he still bat as the DH and SP?
Or are the rules you cannot do that? Anyone know?
Yes, Ohtani can pitch in a game and hit for himself. If he gets knocked around and replaced on the mound, he can stay in as the DH.

No no no no. If Ohtani pitches and hits the Angels forfeit the DH for the entire game. In order for Ohtani to continue to hit he would have to play the field. But the DH would be lost in this game.

Sorry, you are right, I misread the story as what I wrote was only for the All Star game where they made an exception. Later down the story it says that he would have to switch to a position player to stay in the game and the pitcher would have to hit, under normal MLB rules. Moral of this story, read the whole article.

Hahaha I have been there many times. I actually got to witness this event and it was awesome.

By then he'd be in his feelings and bunt dance the rest of his AB's 🤪

Hey, Zack Greinke is a SP and was brought in to PH in the WS. And got a hit lol. I wonder if they will still allow pitchers to PH.
Silver Slugger! I think all pitchers should hit but I have to admit that it’s better for baseball. Greinke is gold glove also to go with that bat.

I was playing an "Extra Innings" game last night to finish getting Nate Pearson to P5 and to get innings with the Rays. All-Star Difficulty. He was at P4, so he had contact and power at 4 and 4, and vision at a whopping 6. I hit a low slider out for a HR. It was the most satisfying home run I've ever hit.

Besides, the DH is a good thing for baseball. It extends the careers of hitters who are more subject to defensive injuries and it saves pitchers from batting and base running injuries. Plus, it’s more offense.
That is true but there is also no denying that it removes a lot a strategic decisions that must be made without the DH.
Just how is this a bad thing outside of competitive play? Oh, it isn't a bad thing if you're just playing the CPU! I'm not saying that it needs to be implemented in PVP modes.
-
Just because MLB adopts the universal DH doesn’t mean this game will. I’m not saying it won’t happen but it’s not a certainty until they actually change the game. They didn’t do it for the pandemic year.

Yes it does, and yes they did. There's a reason why we saw the runner on 2nd in extras and the 3 batter min for relievers.

During the pandemic year we did not see the universal DH which was in affect for the whole of mlb that year. It never was incorporated into this game. I’m pretty close with some of the devs and they haven’t committed to it either way. Not that they would divulge that info to me anyways. But until they change the game I’m going about my business as if this game will not change on that front. It makes in game strategy more compelling to not include it. No need to be so hostile.

I would like for them to adopt it as a gameplay option at the very least. FOR OFFLINE GAMES AGAINST THE CPU including conquest. I'm tired of making my pitchers hit for my Detroit Tigers DD team.

Those rules (DH and runner on 2nd) weren't decided on until June, so we didn't see them adopted until this year's game (runner on 2nd that the MLB decided to keep after the 2020 season). We did however see the 3 batter minimum which was put in place before the games release prior to the 2020 season.

Thata because there was only a 2 month season, and by the time the MLB decided to go DH it was too late MLB20 was complete. With nothing final yet this year sane thing could happen

The pandemic shortened year knew they were getting the UDH in April of that year. Also the three batter minimum was adopted prior to the season. That’s why the game had it included. The only gameplay changes were to doubleheaders and extra innings. And btw the extra innings garbage with a runner on second base is not coming back to the game. That info comes from a little birdy that I know.

Guess only time will tell and we will see if you're correct or not. If you truly are in the insider game for MLBTS, any news on release? Know the cover athelete?

That doesn't bode well for me. I get 6 weeks off in mid March due to a new kiddo, so the game might drop right when I return to work lol
