I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but am honestly curious to know if I am not alone in noticing certain patterns in online play.
One very common one seems to happen when I match up with a lower ranked opponent. In these games, very commonly, my good swings turn into lineouts and flyball outs, early in the game. For example, in my last game, my first five good swing balls in play resulted in outs, and my opponent’s pitcher gains confidence.
By contrast, I also seem to give up an inordinate amount of poor swing bloops and have to pitch my way out of jams early. Sometimes it feels like the game is just spotting my opponent a run or two.
These games tend to finish in one of two ways: either hits start to fall for me eventually and I come from behind to win (or my opponent dashboards after I hit one out), OR my opponent throws 120+ pitches with his starter and I come up short.
Now I know some of you will say, “That’s baseball” but I am curious to know if this pattern sounds familiar to anyone.

It's called DDA. If Crash Bandicoot had it years ago when there were no micro transactions you can best believe games today have it.
They may not call it that at SDS but just Google words like "player retention" and "churn rate". It's why I can stop playing for weeks and come back to a Diamond log in award when I never got one prior.
It's called being thrown a bone. Some of y'all don't even realize it.

So I take it you are saying this sounds familiar?
I’m curious about it. I know I have played against opponents who have mercied me decisively, but it is very rare. I can’t remember a single time I have jumped out to an early lead and not immediately coughed up runs in the next inning to make it close again.

When you're up 4-0 on a guy who has struck out every AB and is hitting below .200 with all his hitters then all of a sudden he gets a case of the Tony Gwynns and fouls off 12 straight. All so far out of the zone there is no way he touches them at all. He gets on then back to back bombs. It's now 4-3 and the sphincter just got tighter.

This game has so much rng that I have lost interest in the series. Problem is that the SDS homer will insist it’s you not the game. Hell top players have quit playing this game because of how bad it plays. I’ve never seen this many people migrate away from this series like this year

And I'll be the first to admit when I benefit from it. I get to DS or CS. I'm not WS caliber by no means. I don't have it mentally. I quit too much because of the BS I see.
That being said I know if I'm playing a WS banner or 12-0 banner that I will get some runs I don't deserve. Home runs that I'm like, how did that go out. The game put my PCI on the ball. I know I wasn't close. On the flip side they'll be ripping the ball right at people are I'll catch them on the warning track when they should've been homers.
Anybody with lots of hours online can attest. If not you're lying to yourself

I guess the key is to be able to overcome these situations, and I think the players who give consistent good inputs do, generally speaking.
Personally, my inputs are inconsistent, so when I have a good swing and it results in an out five times out of five, I am not having fun.

So, it's sort of a catch up Slider or something. Like rubberbanding in racing games? Keep 'em close so they don't quit or lose interest, lol

I'm not that good but against very not good opponent I'm very very not good .... my power is like turn off by a magical wind and all my perfect goes offline or straight line drive to third base anyway most games end in freeze so I just try to still enjoy this game and it's not that easy ! Oh and my def looks like Mo Vaughn playing center field !

I'm not a great player by any means and I know I benefit from this from time to time. I've beaten WS and 12-0 players that I know I had no business beating. I've also been on the other end where the other guys team is batting .200 as a whole and in the first 3 innings I'll give up 6 runs on pitches out of the zone or hr's on swings the pci didn't even touch the ball. It is what it is at this point.
