The good thing is that the 3 players you get to choose from in Inning 1 at 300 stars are not very good, and even if you like Oswalt he can be purchased cheap. But it is frustrating, particularly if this BS continues into Inning 2.

I may start running my own season mode in Play vs. CPU using iScore to score the games and track stats.

Why can't SDS simply have a franchise mode where we use our collection of cards and our team?

Custom Leagues is so close. If they made it so that it could be singleplayer from the get-go (with the CPU controlling either live series teams or using teams pulled from other players, Extra Innings style) and counted as DD for mission purposes I would love it.

    Did you collect Wood?

Did they ever fix the problem where people (like me) weren't getting the program points for beating the Cubs on All-Star in Play vs. CPU?

They did not include enough program stars for offline players, yet online players can get to 1000.

You're not supposed to get to 1000. They found that last year, there wasn't any incentive for folks to continue past the original cap of 600. So this year they made the cap astronomical with the assumption that few, if any, would actually reach it.

That was what I had hoped it was this year. Was disappointed, as usual, when I seen the SDS implementation.

You missed the point entirely. I do not expect to get to 1000 stars. I do expect to easily get to 300 stars though, and yet online players are finding it easy to get over 600.

@Dolenz said in Offline DD - No path to 300 without Showdown or expensive collections is killing my desire to continue.:

Here is where I stand as an offline player as of last night

    • Completed Starter Conquest
    • Complete list 1st Inning Conquest
    • Completed US Conquest
    • Completed Starter Showdown
    • Made Several failed attempts at the 1st inning Showdown
    • Did all of the Welcome Moments
    • Did all of the first inning Moments (Granderson and Woods)
    • Did the Eckersly Evolution moments.
    • Did a MTO run up to the World series(have not played the world series as it would be a waste of affinity points)
    • Earned the FOTF from my favorite team.
    • Played the nine inning CPU games against Cubs and Yankees. (Woods and Granderson)

I am sitting at 205 program points.

There are only a few options open to me to get the final 95 points. Showdown, which I have failed badly at in every attempt so far, and that costs 500 stubs each attempt. Collections, which also cost stubs, but in this case both collections together are more expensive than just buying the three bosses outright. Mindlessly grinding for another 30 hours or so in the last 9 days of the 1st Inning Program.

Basically the goal of 300 stars still seems so far away and the options to get there seem so unappealing (and just not fun) that it has killed a bit of my desire to keep playing.

Have you been doing your dailies?

Not sure what more you want. It’s the same as last year minus the individual moments (replaced by showdown).

Don't underestimate how much of a difference Moments make. I just went and loaded MLB 19 and tallied the 1st inning moments. There were over 160 points to be earned just from moments.

This year we have gotten Granderson and Wood for a total of 40 points. Even if you complete the 1st inning showdown that is only 110. That is a huge difference.

And let's not forget that they nerfed XP earned after the opening weekend this year.

So that’s 50 points. Plus we didn’t have the Granderson/Wood collections or prospect collection which totals to be 40 points right? Not to mention 300 stars was extremely easy last year. The program is meant to be done at 300. Everything else is bonus for people who want to put in time actually playing games whether that’s online or vs CPU.

No, the Granderson/Wood have replaced regular moments. So that is a reduction of 120 points.

Another big difference is that last year if you had issues with one mission you could skip it and only be out between 3 and 8 points. This year you have to do all of the Granderson/Woods moments plus beat the CPU in a 9 inning All star game to earn those points. And Showdown is all or nothing. If there is a Boss moment you can't beat in Showdown you miss out on 70.

They have doubled down on the all or nothing rewards this year.

I am glad people are making it to 300 points and beyond, but looking at their profiles and hours played most are much more devoted than I am and that is fine.

Last year marked the most hours that I have ever devoted to the game because in the end I never felt like anything was out of reach (except some Extreme Moments) and I enjoyed playing the content. '18 actually was the exact opposite in that it marked the fewest hours that I have ever devoted to the game because everything felt out of reach. This year falls somewhere between those extremes. They have definitely made things more difficult for players like me this year.

In the end I need the game to remain fun.

I do agree with that for sure, but also, you have to remember that not having moments is likely the result of multiple factors, including no season and mostly likely the fact that their developers are not able to work in their offices and likely adjusting to working from home (don.t underestimate that). I think you'll see a lot more historical moments in the next inning for sure (I hope at least). But bottom line it that many of their decisions seem to be locking offline players out of DD more and more, and I hope that trend doesn't continue.

Whether or not you believe the OP should be at 300 stars or not, there's no doubt that there is less content in the game this year. Last year you had tons of 1st inning moments, Cubs moments program, Mays, Ruth, Harper, Sony partners, a bunch more conquest maps, etc. You can't just say they replaced it with Showdown, it's the same. It's clearly not.

I play offline (I've played eight online games) and I'm close to 500 stars

Some, but not all. There are some that have required too much of a stub investment for only 2 points (collect eye wear or exchange certain players when I don't have ton yet). I usually try and do the batter innings if I have the players to knock it out in one conquest game. Pitcher missions less frequently.

He wants to play franchise with his DD team and have stats and innings count toward affinity.

It's also more rewarding building a team through packs and missions than just editing a roster.

The only difference IS that they replaced showdown with moments. Yeah its a tad less stars but the storyline moments were 10x more ridiculous than showdown is. Not to mention the only conquest maps we had until Jackie Robinson day/ 2nd inning were the same 3 we have now. None of the Sony partner moments that gave cards came out until May or June last year. I get your point but you need to match up the timelines better. You have to compare what was released up to this point last year. You cant use stuff added after the 1st inning last year to build your case

The problem is Showdown is all or nothing. If I fail I get zero stars. With moments if I did half of them I got half the stars.

That takes a lot of player editing effort, it doesn't count as Diamond Dynasty for missions purposes, and is loaded with Franchise management stuff I want no part of like morale. Also, when a new DD card is released I can't add it to a franchise in progress.

Bingo. DD's manner of assembling and improving my team is far more interesting to me than Franchise's.
