I lobbied hard for his LS to go gold this year but nobody was having it. “That’s not a career year” they said. “Home runs and rbi don’t matter” they said. “His defense blows” they said.
    Oh well.

So long Kyle. You were a class act.

And we were right. Players that deserve to go gold don't just up and retire.....

    Well I would argue that it isn't a career year technically. 2016 > 2021

I loved Kyle for two reasons.

    1. He’s from North Carolina. Love that state!
    2. He got Jared Weaver mad lol

His career would have to be pretty bad for a 99 wRC+ to be considered a career year lmao.

I don't think that anyone said that they don't matter as much as they were saying that they were not all that mattered, which was basically the argument that you were making.

He already had power attributes in the mid 80's from both sides to account for his HR's and he had a 90 clutch which accounts for his RBIs. He needed better contact numbers as his highest contact number was a 46. You can't say that everyone else was downplaying HRs and RBIs while you were completely dismissing BA (Contact).

The thing that bugged me the most about it was, his LS card was gold at the end of 2020, and then when 21 came, they made him silver again. I’m not sure how the whole three year average thing explains that.

I’m not here to have that argument again. Everyone made their points on both sides. I just had a feeling it would be his last year, and really appreciated his play on the field. I think he played in all but like two games.

    Total class player.

They did the same thing with Corbin Burnes. He was an 84 gold at the end of 20, then started this year as a 79 silver. Some of the ratings changes dont make a bunch of sense.

I agree that ending the season as one rating and starting the next season at a different one does not make much sense. I complained about it when Aaron Judge magically went from a mid gold to a diamond when he was made the cover athlete.

It all boils down, I believe, to how they do their three year ratings and when those are adjusted.

If, before the season, they knocked off any of the 2016 season for Burnes, then his abysmal 2017 stats were going be weighted more and cause him to drop.

Same deal for Seager. He had a great 2016 so if any of those stats rolled off his three year average before the season then his rating was going to drop.

That’s a pretty good theory. I guess we’ll have to wait four more years to see if he comes back into the game.
